I think everyone can do their part to save a tree. For instance, have your bank, brokerage company quit mailing statements that you can get online.
What is really a waste to me, is all the junk mail advertisements we get and don't even look at.

Yes, certain things still need to be sent in the mail... packages, certified letters, official documents that require an original signature, etc. However, many companies DO offer incentives for paperless bills (such as through email or online account access) where you can pay with a credit card or electronic check, and many backs these days offer Bill Pay... often free. If possible the bank pays these bills via electronic transfer... if not possible they do still send a check to the company. But you're right, mail is not as important as it use to be, and I think we will definately see a drop in our dependancy on it.

Give me a break! Next you are going to tell me that we don't need cash either b/c we have to kill precious little cotton plants to make it. Sorry, sweetheart! I want the very few checks I write back every month & I want a big paper print out of every cent of activity on my accounts. Furthermore, I don't want my damned bank paying my bills or receiving them. They're my bills, it is no business of theirs which companies provide my services or goods. For that matter, I wouldn't trust the nitwits that run the bank to handle them efficiently.
Final points:
(1) Do you "get" that North America has more acres of forest (Those precious trees!) NOW than it did when Columbus landed?
(2) My whole "gangsta roll" & my lifetime's check stock will biodegrade before 1 stupid credit card!

i would be lost without my mail...i enjoy checking the mail and paying my bills, my bank offers online bill pay but i like the old fashioned way of paying them that way i KNOW they are paid on time...also just because you and i have access to the internet doesnt mean everyone else does, so how do u suppose they pay their bills, plus getting rid of mail will put thousands of people out of jobs!

I pay every single bill online. The only mail I ever get are advertisements and my Money magazine subscription. You can pay all your bills online and eliminate having paper bills sent to you.
