Illinois is currently having a crisis with Ameren Cips. I'm just curious what others from around the globe are paying.

Wow. Your answers are really great. Like I said I'm in Illinois (southern). It is a mostly blue-collar area. We have a family of 5 in a 2000 sqft home. Nobody is home all day, so we turn everything down/off. Decent insulation but really need to replace a couple of HUGE windows.
Our power bill went from 250 in December to an outrages 475 in January.
I'm thinking California looks pretty good right now.
Thanks for your answers

we were told by ameren that rates would increase $1 or $2 a day for all electric homes. Why is it then that my bill has doubled? My bill (so. illinois) was about $60, and it has now gone up to $141. I'm not opposed to an increase, but a 100% increase. Ridiculous.

actually there is no such thing as "disability PAY", you are not paid for being disabled. What you would receive is called "disability benefits". If your case is approved then you would get an amount from SSI from which your attorney's fees would be deducted and you'd get the balance. Problem is that you're only allowed to hold onto $2,000 and that's all. So you'd need to use the balance toward things you need for your disability. The amount you would receive monthly is different for each person and I don't know how much you're approved for so I can't guess. I suspect your attorney also applied for Medicare for you.

Average bill for me on Long Island in my Town House is 370 per month. House is run totally on electric. I have invested in a kerosene heater and replaced 35 light bulbs with the energy savers. Hope it cuts back some.

In northwest Florida, our gas and electric together generally run about $175 total, some months one is higher, other months the other but they average out together about the same.
Thsi si for a decent sized 3 bedroom house that is not well insulated.

I am very glad to say that my power bill is $40 a month. I do not have gas and the water is paid via my condo association - but is roughly about $20 a month.

I have a 1300 sq condo in Atlanta

In Phoenix, AZ, my electric bill is $80 to $100 in the winter but in the very hot, hot months of July & August is hits $200-$250.

BTW - my house is 2,050 sq ft with four bedrooms and two bathes. That sounds similiar to your house. We did just have our windows redone to double pane and that has saved us 15-20% on our energy bill. Plus we changed the light bulbs in our house to the compact luorescent light bulbs - those save on your eletric bill too.
