I am working on getting out of debt and am doing okay at it, but I can't do anything while doing it. There is nothing left to do fun things, and I can't even date if I don't have money to go out with. Is it really such a viscous circle?

I have been given a personal check from somebody with a Bank of America checking account. I personally do not have a Bank of America checking. If I was to take this check into an actual branch of Bank of America, would they cash it for me as long as I showed ID?

My wife and I want to buy a house about the middle of 2008. Right now we only have one car that we use to commute to work and I also use the car to drive from site to site as a repair technician. We have heard both sides, but we don't know whether we should go ahead and buy a new car now or wait until after we buy our house. If we wait then we would probably buy one with cash. Which way is best? My parents say to buy a house first then buy a car, but her parents say the opposite.

I have a client who has gotten behind on her mortgage payments by a few months. She is unable to refinance at this time due to pre-payment penalties on her current mortgage sending the payoff over equity. She wants to cash in her 401K, and yes she understands the very high penalties/taxes/fees involved. Her employer will not allow her to do so unless she provides a letter of forclosure for a hardship loan against the 401K. She would prefer her home not go into forclosure at all and just wants to pay it now. Every day that passes, she is charged more fees from her mortgage company for being behind. What can she do?

We are a couple living in the US planning to move to London and we would appreciate your sharing what you know about the cost of living. We don't have a child yet but we plan to have one. We would like to know all the monthly expenses such as income tax, council tax, other taxes, transportation, retirement, baby sitter, other baby expenses and any other thing that we should use to consider this option.
In case you are wondering we have both master's degrees and working permit for the UK.
THANKS A LOT!

If there is a net (after taxes) income of $3100/month (about $37,000 / year), and the family has no debt except a mortgage, can they survive on this income? The mortgage payment is about $670/ month and they live in the Southeastern United States.

Thanks for your opinion! If you can elaborate on why you think what you do, that would be helpful.

I'm an out of college associate for a research company, and living at home has afforded me the opportunity to save up some money. I currently have an an online brokerage account and hold some ETF's, but am looking to become a little more involved in terms of personal investing; rather then letting my money sit in a checking account. Where can i find a forum or good site that discusses personal investing?
