I was sent an email stating that to get my prize I would have to pay out $780.00GBP How is this any different in value to our USdollar

it will cost you a whole lot more than just the currency change. If you are giving them your bank info, it will cost everything you have in that account. If you are sending them a check or other payment method, that is what you will lose.

It is a scam.

All currencies differ according to the economic situation in each country. This is the exchange rate. If the dollar goes down against the pound, we would get more dollars for each pound if we were on holiday in US, and vice versa. One of the main things to take into account is the rate of inflation. One example would be that, because of war using all their resources, the exchange rate in Italy was thousands of their Lire for £1.
It works the other way, too, of course. If the dollar is good against the pound, you will get more pounds for your money here. Hope this helps. Oh yes, being asked for money? Make sure they are not pulling a con on you. Read the other answers too.

Saw a programme on tv about this kind of scam. The sad woman lost £15000 and still never got her money.

silly silly person becarefull its a BIG TIME SCAM,if you had won this money why have they not sent it to you,delete and virus scan your p.c..get your anti-spam working.
