I recieved an envelope in the mail the other day with several travelers cheques made out to me. No return address was on the envelope and I do not know anyone in Togolaise nor would anyone send me travelers cheques in the amounts that these are. I know this is too good to be true and it is some sort of scam but I did not respond to any e-mail, advertisement, phone call or anything of the sort. I am befuddled as to why anyone would send me these cheques. Has anyone experienced something similar?

On a regular basis, I come across young people who can't trust their parents with their money. They don't have bank accounts for this reason, which is horrible in the sense that they waste money at check cashing places, and don't learn about budgeting and saving. Recently, I was disturbed by the idea that a young lady was walking around with $400 in her wallet because she didn't want to leave the money in her house because she didn't want her mom to take it. Why can't teenagers open bank accounts by themselves, or can they? I am tired of seeing hard-working teens trying to better themselves getting ripped off by their parent...especially when the parent doesn't even have a job themselves. (sigh.)

Does anyone have any solutions to pass along to these young people?

Isn't that bad thing? I heard that doing that can charge your card each time you do that. I hope not, because I was in Wal-Mart and the girl said so many people are doing transactions today that the systems have slowed or something. Is that true or is she trying to steal my money?

I understand why market value of all capital should be used when calculating the WACC for a future project, but I don't understand why it should be used in valuing a firm today.

For Example:

Time = 0

Assets = 1,000 return 8% required return 8%
Debt = 500 return 8% required return 8%
Equity = 500 return 8% required return 8%

In this simple example, the returns and required returns are equal, therefore the market values equal book values.

If the required return of the debt increases to 10%, then the value of the liability decreases to 400.

Is it not good when the value of a liability decreases for the company that is paying on the debt? If this happens, would the value of the assets not increase because the company is paying a yield below market yields?

But, based on market values of 400 for debt and 500 for equity, the WACC would increase resulting in a decline in the value of the assets.

I would really appreciate it if someone could help me out.
