The stress during the holidays at a retail store is UNIMAGINABLE. I mean, there are worse situations but it gets really bad during the holidays.

I work as a cashier and customer service representative and people seem to get a stick up their bum if they dont get their way. I mean, not everyone is mean during the season but a majority of the cranky, rushed customers are.

I've worked retail during the holidays and believe me, it is a very rough gig! Customers are rude and beligerent; I was screamed at, physically grabbed and basically blamed for everything....believe me, you get to the end of your rope the closer it gets to Christmas. I'm not making any excuses for rude behavior on anyone's part, there is no excuse...but the best thing you can do, we all can do, to get through this a little easier is to just be nice and keep smiling, especially to cashiers...they are the retail scratching posts. Merry Christmas to you....and keep smiling!

Maybe they're tired and overworked, underpaid. I try to over look their rudeness if I can. I've seen some customers who are really rude also. Everyone should try using a little kindness and civility all the time, but especially at Christmas~
Happy Holidays!~~

speaking as a cashier myself
It is really hard to be nice when you are blamed for the
prices,
when people put to much in their carts and don't have enough money and its your fault
you come to an item with no price tag you need a price check and its your fault.

1 watch the people in line ahead of you
2 your hot tired and your feet hurt
3 watch the people in line ahead of you.

Probably because they make $7 an hour and have dealt with nothing but disgusting and insensitive customers all day long...after a while they just don't care....who can blame them.

I think they are working long hours and are just as tired and stressed as the rest of us. I don't think they mean to be that way, but has someone ever pushed your buttons?
