Does esurance.com list reputable companies or do they list just any company? It looks like I have found a really good deal for student indemnity insurance from a company called Time. Does anyone know if this is a good company?

My mortgage company recently notified me that I am now required to have flood insurance due to the new FEMA remapping of my neighborhood. What I didn't notice at first is that the letter was dated for this year, but the period that insurance was requested for is 3 years in the past. They have automatically taken money out of my escrow account to cover the premium, and also have the matter is 'under investigation' and probably a mistake, but is this even legal? They told me that 'had something happened, they would have covered me...' Can they really charge me NOW, for an insurance policy that didn't exist 3 years in the past?

Please answer if this is in your realm of knowledge!

Would it be better to take the ticket deferral or just pay the fine? It was a minor 2 point violation for speeding 54 in a 40. The state trooper also issued a written warning for disregarding a traffic signal. This is my first ticket in over seven years and State Farm states this shouldn't raise my premium. Is this true or are they just saying this so I will pump more money into their company. Anyone familiar with this process.......Please Help?!?!

My SUV was rear-ended by a tractor trailer on an interstate off ramp 3 months ago. I'm 34 & this was my 1st accident ever. My bumper only had $800 worth of damage. My 10-yr old daughter, 5-yr old son, and I went to the emergency room the next day because we had severe neck & back pain. We were diagnosed with muscle spasm. Two weeks later, my daughter & I started chiropractic care because our pain had not subsided. We went to the chiropractor for 2 months. My daughter has completely recovered and I only have mild pain in my neck when I turn it. How much should I ask for in my insurance settlement with the trucker's company? (I live in N.Carolina)

True story: A friend of mine came up to me and started talking about this life insurance her husband had. Her husband died recently at age 55 and she filed for a death claim. It was a $100,000 face amount and there was about $22,000 of cash value sitting in the policy. The company paid her $100,000 a month later.

While that's good, she ask the company why she didn't get the $22,000 too? The company said the cash value belongs to the company and as stated in the policy, all cash value will be forfeit to the insurance company upon death of the insured. She was like really pissed off about it and that's why she told me her story.

So, why have cash value in a policy if you are going to lose it all upon your death?

My upstairs toilet overflowed, running thru my ceiling and onto my kitchen, hardwoods, etc.
Servicemaster has been here and has cut holes everywhere and has fans, etc dryin things out. Adjuster came today and cut me a check to get me started. . . but I feel uncomfortable on a few levels:
a) Water dripped onto some of my kitchen cabinets discoloring them and making the joints swell. Additionally, some of the upper cabinets had grey water standing on them and had to be reomoved. Adjuster said that "an experienced cabinet contractor could handle that".
WOuldn't they have to re-do all the cabinets to make sure they match? Are there any rules here? I live in an upscale home.
b) The drywall behind the tile backsplash has been removed and now there are cracks in the grout. Servicemaster guy pointed out that this is from drywall damage, but not much comment from Adjuster (wasn't factored in the check he offered).
Any comments? Thanks so much!

I'm baffled my my employer's complicated Consumer-Driven Health Plan (CDHP), called Definity Health. It sounds so complicated and even risky. What kind of person would benefit from this kind of plan? Someone who doesn't use doctors very much? What's the worst case scenario (e.g., if major surgery is required)?

My father just retired, but he is stubborn and against getting a life insurance policy. I would like one to cover expenses he may leave behind and to take care of his wife, but he just doesn't see the need for some reason. His wife (my mother) is also the same way and they are too old fashioned and set in their ways to change their way of thinking. My parents are not rich and does not have a lot of money saved up. As a result, I may have to pay it myself even though I am supporting my own family on a single income. Obviously, the older one gets, the more expensive a life insurance policy becomes. Does anyone know of any good, reliable low cost life insurance companies out there? He doesn't have any major problems, but it would be best if there are some that doesn't require any health checks.

I am 24, so I am too old to be on my mom's health insurance plan, but I am also a graduate student, so I don't have a full-time job, so I can't get insurance through my job. I recently found a plan for about $180 a month and a $500 deductible, $20 copay for doctor visits, etc. Does this sound like a reasonable deal? It seems expensive to me, but I know that individual health insurance is through the roof these days.

Problem w/ our furnace started late December. Several people came out & check it including folks from the home waranty co. They told us to get it cleaned out, serviced, & even replaced a sensor all about $650.

Turns out, our furnace heat exchanger (oil heater part that converts the oil to heat) cracked & has been band-aided (last Wed) until the insurance co can work w/ the contractor. The folks from the oil co could relace the furnace on next day for $3k. The insurance co says that they will only pay for the labor of the contractor b/c the exchanger is still under manufacturer warranty & gave cash option of $1200 for someone else to do it.

They called yesterday & said the exchanger is on 2-3 wk back order & will offers new furnace by end of week. New problem: this will add $855 out of pocket + $100 deductable! B/c of disposal, upgrades, liner, & modifying that is not covered.
