A preventable accident is one that the dangers could have been easily foreseen by a reasonable person. Running across a wet floor in stocking feet and falling is an example of a preventable accident. An unforeseeable accident would be an event that any reasonable person couldn't possibly have anticipated, like a tire blowing off of a semi truck on the highway and the tire slamming into your windshield.

Unforeseeable accidents are unexpected or unlikely or strange or miraculous mishaps (e.g. couples above 90 years old need not have any fear of accidental conception, but if this happens miraculously, it is unforeseeable). On the contrary, young couples who don't want a baby, but have not engaged any family planning device will most likely end up with preventable accidental conception. Anything that is unheard of or strange is unforeseeable while anything that is possible or likely to happen is preventable.
