I work for an outpatient surgery center. We have a patient that had a very expensive procedure at our facility. We billed the patient's insurance and they paid...the patient. The insurance company says it's our problem to get the money from the patient. The patient won't return calls or mail. What laws has the patient broken? What can we do to convince the patient to repay us?

Mom had an emergency surgery four months ago plus three set backs. Needs another major surgery to finish the first procedure once she is healthy enough. She is under 60 so does not qualify for medicare or medicaid. Applied for disability but that will take at least 3 mos to process, and if approved still won't be enough to meet the $3300/mo payment plan. Current monthly income is $911.00 from dad's social security. House is paid for but cannot get a reverse mortgage (too young) or a home equity loan (income too low). Parents have cashed in their IRAs and stocks (losing 40% in fees, penalties and taxes). NOTHING is left. About to be turned over to collection tho they've always had the best credit rating. Hospital has offered a 25% discount if they could pay the entire initial bill, but there wasn't enough stock/IRA money to cover even that.

Can we get the bill down to what an insurance company would pay for the same services? How do I find out what are "customary and reasonable fees"?

We were storing our ATV at the home of a family member when it got stolen. We didn't have insurance on it at the time and we want the family member's homeowners insurance to replace it. They are saying that they won't replace it. Shouldn't they replace it since it was stolen from their insured's property?

I currently have Unicare with a $35 co-pay and a $1000 deductable. My secondary is Family Care which is a form of Illinois Medicaid and it has a co-pay of $2. I have graduated medical billing and am pretty sure on the answer to my question, but I need to know how to prove it if I am correct.

My husband has been assigned to go to physical therapy. They accept both insurances. They are trying to tell my husband that there is a $30 co-pay because they are physical therapy.
My assumption was that with a secondary or co-insurance you are to bill the patient after you have billed the other sources. When you recieve the EOB from the primary (Unicare) you bill the remainder, which includes the co-pay, to the secondary (Medicaid). Then the secondary insurance's EOB shows what is left of the member responsibility. Therefore the only thing we may have to pay is the $2 Medicaid co-pay.

PLEASE HELP!!

I've heard that some employers take out life insurance policies on their workers without their knowledge to assure the company that business will go on as usual should the unforseen happen. Is that true? And if so, is there a way to find out if you are one of the chosen?

i have PPO option with a $1500 deductible with co-insurance (no co-pay). What does co-insurance mean? Would I have to bear the expenses for the 1st $1500 I spend for my health treatment/prevention? This is too much for me to bear- this insurance is worse than what I had when I was in school

I live in Canada and we have what they call WSIB (Workplace Safety and Insurance Board). The doctor gave me a week off. Now what I want to know is can I get more money from them like suing them or something :)??? Any ideas I am poor by the way..... :(

Can my mom get on Social Security Disability after she had her total knee replacement? So far she has been turned down by AARP, and other insurances. My mom has high blood pressure, and is a little over weight. She has had lost a few pounds after her gallbladder surgery (that is why they are turning her down). Do you think Social Security would turn her down? I just hope not. I just feel so bad for her. She's in her late 50s. If that helps. Be honest, Thanks!

I am trying to get in touch with my husband's former employer (surprise surprise they're not answering my messages) to find out how long our coverage will last. But in the meantime I was just wondering what other people's experiences have been. Did your coverage end the day you left? Or did it last for a bit longer?

Okay my mother-law lost a diamond bracelet. It was insured and she got money for it from the insurance company. This was several months back. Now she is moving and found the bracelet hanging from a nail behind her dresser. Should she just keep her mouth shut?
Why wouldn't people just do that..my wifes engagement ring and wedding band are insured....what stops me from just calling the insurance company and saying they are lost and collecting the money.

I only get paid $9.00/hr, I am supposed to work 40 hours a week, but due to being a single mother, and having 2 sick kids, I average about 30-35..... I used up all my paid sick days in the 1st month after I went full time...... I am going on vacation next week, and they are only giving me 3 paid days, due to their generosity, they made it clear I had not earned that. I work my tail off here, and they said they cannot stand it when I am out of the office because of the work load I pull, then why do they not compensate me for it, I have NO benefits, and none have been discussed..... SOMEONE PLEASE TELL ME SHOULD i LOOK FOR ANOTHER JOB?
