My apartment unit just caught on fire yesterday, and only the entire kitchen burned down, everything else is covered soot, and there are couple smoke damages on the wall. My family rent the apartment, and the landlord is trying to have us take all the responsibilities. The report labeled the fire under "accidental", but does which kind of accident matter? those caused by a person (negligence)? those caused by uncontrollable factors (appliance defect, electricity leakage)? Also, about when will the insurance person show up? I won't know the terms of the insurance until the insurance person shows up.Please try to answer all three questions.

Hey Guys,

I was in a car accident November 18th of last year. I hired an attorney in January and I have a good case. It seems like it's taking forever for me to get the money that is rightfully mine. How long do these kind of cases last and when should I expect my claim to be settled? I need the money now so I can start my life. Is there any way to speed up the process and also, could I get loans from my lawyer if he KNOWS I am getting a big settlement? He says he's just waiting for Geico to settle. I am really growing impatient and I need the money ASAP.

Thanks in advance!
Star

I am trying to figure out the best way to find out information from an accident settlement from many years ago for my friend. Her daughter was about 2 years old and got hit by a car, and there was supposed to be a settlement for the child held until she turned 18. Well she is almost 17, they have moved around quite a bit in the last 15 years, and has no information whatsoever. My only thought was to start with the police report....any other ideas of what else to do from there?

My wife received a letter from a Mutual insurance company. They needed info about her brother LP. Turns out that LP had taken out a policy back in 1974. Well LP died in 1992. He had his father as the primary and his mother as the contingency. His mother died in 1991 and his father remarried 4 days before LP died. Then his father died this year. Can the wicked step-mother step forward and say "It's mine" Or does it follow the blood line and go to the siblings? The woman on the phone said that it was a "nice chunk of change".

I need to purchase private health insurance for my son, who was born with a congenital heart defect. He has had surgery to correct (3 years ago) and requires no additional treatment. He does see a cardiologist once a year, though, strictly routine.

Two questions: (1) Is health insurance like credit cards, i.e. if you apply to too many, it looks bad on your record?

(2) Does anyone know of an insurance company and/or plan that would likely accept him? He's been denied coverage by one, but I don't want to keep applying if it will ultimately hurt his record.

Thank you.

I understand that some companies (factors?) buy unwanted life insurance policies that are no longer contestible (owned over two years) for a cash payment (some percentage of the face value of the policy) and then pay the premiums because they will eventually get the proceeds when the owner dies. Does anyone here have experience with this procedure? Does anyone know a list of such companies when one has such a policy that has been in force a long time? All replies are appreciated.

Do the big bucks go to Insurance agents? Everyone talks about the potential to make lots of money in insurance, but is that only if your in sales as an agent. Will working in claims or adminstrative duty pay so well?

I see a plethora of information out there, even in my own policy, that makes it clear that sewage backups are usually not covered. However, I do not have a backup. I have a sewer line under my basement slab that is broken - most likely due to age and shifting. The plumbers are still tearing up my house to fix it, so I am not ready to file the claim yet.
