If you get overlooked for a promotion in which the person who is promoted over you was no where near your education level, experience, and longevity with the company, what is the best way to deal with this?

Should I just realize life is not fair, or should I get a lawyer and sue if it is clear I was treated unfairly? I am not sure how to go about doing all this, I just know that I am more qualified than the person that will be getting it, and in fact even after expressing my interest, they have not been keeping me updated as to when they will be filling the spot.

I tried asking him a legit question about his scheduling and this is what he yelled at me “You will not speak unless you're spoken to!"

I wanted to know if there is something I can do legally. Im not the only one who gets this treatment but I seem to be the one he likes to take his anger out on. He yells at me like that all the time and of course Im looking for another job but I refuse to leave until I have something. Last time I left thinking I had another job when it was not finalized I got in major debt. I want to see if anyone can give me advice, should I go to the labor board? Will they do anything??? Please help.

The maximum taxable amount will rise to $97,500 in 2007. The Social Security tax rate is not automatically adjusted and remains 6.2 percent.
I'm currently under the max but if I start my new job prior to receiving my severence package will that trigger a notification to my current employer and cause issues as they'll need to make adjustments for it?
It's not illegal or wrong to be employed by 2 companies at the same time right?

I asked again for further deatil and all they said it was not a right fit. On my recent job application I have listed "position eliminated" as my reason for leaving. This has never been an issue for previous background checks. However, I just received a verbal offer for my dream job and I am really concerned what this previous employmer might say about me. We left on good terms.

I work in an office in southeast Texas (40 miles outside Beaumont) and pay day is every Friday. My boss is occasionally late with pay checks but I really needed them on time this month because of my bills. This month, he went over the line.

Now, he owes me two pay checks. But worse, when he didn't pay me a few weeks ago, it bounced my electric and phone bill in the bank several times and is costing me an extra $160 plus for bank fees, and all of this is 100% due to my boss not paying me. My boss says he isn't going to help with the bank fees due to his neglect.

I am wondering if this is illegal for my boss to do? I never bounced in the bank before till now and it is because of my boss not paying me. Shouldn't he be responsible for this and the money he STILL owes me?

Who do I contact about this? Surely employees have some rights somewhere? Any information would be great. Thanks so much.

Specifically, the present employer can see the job searches on the job search sites and routinely looks. If he sees my name on there, I would most likely be fired on the spot. I am not happy, and feel trapped. I asked this question before and received an answer about not doing it from work. It does not matter where I put my resumes in if he looks on the job site. What to do?

During my down time (after hours) and on my days off or in between jobs I have to p/u & d/o his laundry. purchase and cash in his instant lottery tickets. p/u and deliver his food. so on and so on (lottery tickets in excess of $1,000 a week. If I do not do it in a timely fashion or complain he makes me miserable at work and gives me all the garbage jobs to punish me. I know I can always quit and get another job but I need the money and I like my real job minus the slave stuff. Is there legal action I can take because I am now being punished for taking to long to cash in $1,800 in lottery tickets and would like to sue if possible. I can't go over his head because he is protected by the owner.

Started in a job 4 months ago on probation term.

The probation term was for 3 months. This was extended by 5 days because I was authorised to take a week's holiday.

I was only told the probation period would be extended verbally - this was never confirmed in print.

My probation finished on September 18th (originally supposed to be the 11th). On the day, I wasn't told anything. When I asked what was going on, a letter was given to me advising that it had been extended by another week. There was no explanation as to why in the letter other than to say they wanted to continue assessing the role. When I asked why, I was told that I couldn't be given a reason!

The following week I was told I didn't have the job as it was felt I wouldn't be able to handle the pressure. This had never been mentioned before and I am now out of a job. I was given a letter that just said my employment was terminated - no reason is given.

Is this all legal? What are my rights?

Thanks

- Gord

I started a new job 2 weeks ago and was told by my employer that it was a monthly salaried position. At the end of month he refused to pay me anything saying I was only there 2 weeks and he wanted me to work a lying fortnight! He would pay me a months salary at the end of Oct but withhold the 2 weeks until such times as I left. I thought that conditions such as this had to be stated upon taking up the job and not just because its pay day and he decided not to pay me for my 2 weeks. What can I do about the situation.
