I have a budget, but we squeak by every month. We now have $60 in savings that I've scraped together.

DH is a grad student and his future prospects are at about $40-50K, hopefully he'll be employed this coming fall. I am a SAHM. We have no payments beyond rent, electric, phone right now, although I do make very small interest payments on my deferred student loans ($5 every couple months). We REALLY need an emergency fund, start saving for retirement, would like to buy a house (someday??) and our car is 9 years old with almost 150K miles on it - and very testy. Where do I start? Should I just try to keep scraping a few dollars here and there together until DH starts working? Or should we take out one last student loan (unsubsidized $5K) to use as an EF? Or something else? I'm very concerned right now because the check engine light came on in our car today!

I know that the deadline for normal employers is Jan 31st to get your W2 forms to you. I am wondering if anyone else separated ( I honorably served my 4 year enlistment) and how this worked out for them? Maybe there is a website or phone number I can call to check on this sort of thing? It's tax time baby and I'm anxious.

Ok, We got a joint acct in august 06. We both put 50 dollars a week into a personal acct which should leave PLENTY of money for the bills and to put away in savings. The whole idea was to use "OUR" money for bills and savings, and use personal money for things we want.

PROBLEM: he uses our money for stuff he wants, and then complains that we havent been able to save much money. When I confront him with the facts and ask him what these purchases were for, he gets defensive and goes off on a tangent about how he had more money when he had a personal acct. Im NOT going back to having seperate accts because I always paid for food then. He never went to get groceries, it was ALWAYS me. AND that was unfair to me since he ate the food too.

So how do I confront him with all of this without starting a fight with him. I HATE fighting and we dont do it often. He just gets so defensive about money! Any ideas on what we should do? Thanks.

I have asked this question already and I think that I needed to better explain myself.
I work with the public. My boss is very rude to customers and employees alike. She makes working at my job so miserable for everyone. Everybody that has left this job has left on account of her. She treats ppl like they are stupid and like she knows everything. Everyone in the company (including her boses) baby her so that they will not have to argue with her. It's easier just to let it go because she will argue all day on pointless stuff. When she doesn't get her way or someone dissagrees with her she just yells in a confused way. So what my question is, should I go over her head and talk to human resources....or would it be pointless?
