What can I do if the builder is incharge of home owners association (because sub-division is only 50% built) and discriminates me because of warranty disputes I have with hime. Association asked me to provide a plan for the Land Scaping in August, 2006, which I did. They never contacted me after that (My telephone company log show no missed calls or received call since August from their office, but when I enquired last week, they sent a letter disapproving the lanscaping saying the size of plants/trees put in is not as per their rules. They also said that they tried to contact me by phone which they did not (can be proved from log of their office phone and my home phone by the telephone company) and they had my address to send me a letter. When I called last week, office manager told me that she does not know why my land scaping was not approved (it is normally approved with 3 weeks) and said she will let me know after a meeting with project manager (who is an employee of the builder)

my friend made $50,000 in 2005 and over $100,000 in 2006 so far as an independent contractor (1099-misc). she did not file for 2005 income and believes she can get away with not paying as much as she owes for 2005 and will owe for 2006 by settleing with the IRS when and if they contact her. i want to give her some advice on this but do not want to scare her un-neededily. if she made this amount ($100,000) in 2006 so far i estimate she would owe almost $40,000 in taxes. she says she has $30,000 in savings but will get rid of it before the IRS contacts her and then will settle for a lesser amount. (maybe use the $ to buy a car, which she believes the IRS can't confiscate if it is her only means of transportation). is this true? why hasn't the IRS contacted her about the $50,000 she made last year (1099-MISC). any advice? thank you.

I am a international student coming from Hong Kong. Currently I am studying at a university in Glasgow. I am also holding a student visa which means I am not allowed to receive public funds (i.e. loan). But at the moment I need to borrow money as an emergency but I know I am not entitled to borrow some money from the bank as they won't lend me due to government restrictions, so apart from it what else could I do?? Many thanks!! :)

About a year ago, I opened a joint bank account and the co-applicant deposited a payroll check. Assuming the check was good, bills were sent out, but only to find out that the employer of the coapplicant couldn't support the amount nor payroll for a hand full of other employees. Several over draft fee's were applied to my account. So being the head of the account, I was then legally responsible for the amount of the co-applicants payroll check, in addtion to several over draft fees. I have tried, but cannot open an checking account with banks without comfermation that the co-applicant has assumed responsability, as he has claimed to have. He has also stress that the employer was addressed in court and that she was found not responsible for paying it back or redepositing it."so he says"and issue has not been resolved. I would rather pay a lawyer a , hopefully smaller amount, before taking responability.Should i go ahead and start to make payments or waite for a lawyer?

Why is this and is it true? How much can you take out and how often of your own money without the Govt. getting involved. If the bank has a record why alert the Govt..seems like an invasion of privacy. I just wanted to take out a couple thousand for a trip...

I bought a 3 unit building a year ago. The selling agent and seller signed off there were no alterations, permit problems, additions etc. After I bought I found out it is on title as 5 units. The agent is a contractor who did the conversion to 3 units and never got it inspected by the city (just pulled permits) Do I have a slam dunk lawsuit or is the resp. on me and my buying agent for not doing the research with the city or otherwise and the fact that we signed off on everything? What could the defense use as an argument?

I don't know much about ING direct, and was considering opening an account there. Does anybody know something about them? Any bad experiences? I was amazed how how much interest they can give compared to my Wells Fargo account.

I have learned that it could lead to maybe something permanent, can anyone tell me if they have had any experience with this?

Here is the scenario:

A couple wants to buy a house. They do not have 5% to put down (expensive housing market). His credit is poor (in the 500's) but he makes well-above average income and his only debt is his vehicle (bad money management in the past). Her credit is good, but her income is just average and she still has a good amount of debt (college loans, credit cards, vehicle).

When applying for a mortgage, would it be better to use the combined income ($100K+ per year) even though it would pull his low credit score, or is the credit score so important that they should try to just get the mortgage on her alone, even though she has a high debt to income ratio?

Will most companies agree to run both scenarios to see what the better deal is?
