I don't know much about ING direct, and was considering opening an account there. Does anybody know something about them? Any bad experiences? I was amazed how how much interest they can give compared to my Wells Fargo account.

The one bad thing about ING is that it may take up to three days to get your money out. If you need the money right away, this might not be a good idea.

I use Zion's bank.
http://moneymarket.zionsbank.com/
Right now they are paying 5.3% which is the highest around, and they give you an ATM card with the account.

Recently i've been looking into GMAC
http://www.gmacbank.com/
They are paying 5.3% and give you an ATM card AND Checks.

You might also want to look into EmigrantDirect.
https://www.emigrantdirect.com They pay 5.05%

I moved the bulk of my savings there a year ago and have made out like a bandit on interest.

The only negative, and it's not too bad, is that it takes a few days for money to move into or out of the account so we need to anticipate a bit more.

Never had any security trouble or missing transactions. The website is easy to use and they have more security than I can shake a stick at and keep upgrading.

Never used for CDs or loans as we get better deals locally on that but we're happy with the savings accounts.

There are a fine choice, but you'll still need to keep an account with a local bank. I have had an account for a few years and have been very pleased.

As the others have indicated:
Very nice % paid on deposits
Withdrawals can take 3 days
Deposits have a "hold" and/or penalty
A few other "online" banks pay a bit higher

I think it's great and I highly recomend it!

You get 3.5% ($CND) interest which sure beats a big bank savings account. There are other banks out there such as ICICI that pay more interest but apparently they're having some customer service issues. (see source).

I've been with ING for 3 or 4 years now and have had no problems of any sort. I've had pleanty of questions to ask and their customer service has been great.

Plus their website is organized and super easy to use.

Hope that helps!

The only problem I ever had with ING direct was setting up the account. It took me SIX MONTHS! They kept wanting me to send them copies of bills, etc. If I did not know better, I would have sworn they thought I was not who I said I was.

I finally had to escellate up three levels of management and complain like hell!

FINALLY, they opened an account for me! I hooked them up to my "real" bank account, transfered money back and forth to make sure it worked - it did!

Absolutely no problems ever since. I make awesome interest, and - now that I am an establish customer - nothing is too much trouble.

I have had one for years...had no problems with it..no fees and one of the best if not the best interest rates around...I can access my money either on the Internet..(transfer to my chequing account)...through an ATM or phone..and all come with no fees. I use it to save $$ so I don't withdraw very often. You can set up an automatic savings plan (which I have) and watch your dollars grow. I am in Canada but I would think that it would be similar in the States.

I've been an ING direct account holder for 3 years, but recently opened an online savings account with HSBC.

Right now, ING pays 4.40 but HSBC is paying 5.05.

As far as service...well, they're internet based accounts, so you really just manage it yourself.
