If you have experience or links to information on stock trading would you mind sharing your tips and beginner info and a good place to get started for the individual investor. I'm advising a high school senior -- just a friend, not in an official capacity. Typical teenager, he has no idea what he'd like to do with his life.

His exact comments are: "I like working with my hands, but having to think about what I'm doing. I dont think I could ever work a desk job." I agree: there's no way he's right for a desk job.

He currently cooks in a fast food place. "All motion, no thinking." He hates it.

Any suggestions as to what kind of career might fit these requirements?

I have not filed my taxes for the past couple of years and owe around
$50K. I have about $60K in cash. If I use my cash to pay down my
mortgage will this make the IRS more likely to settle for a a lower
tax payment?

The IRS currently does not know how much I owe them or how much I
have? I'm looking at paying down my mortgage before I file. So if I
have zero cash and more home equity when I file will the IRS settle for more like $10K cash instead of the $50K?

The thing is I just started a job and I thought I did okay on the interview but then I received a call saying I got the job. Now my boss said he will start me off at a higher salary than he is suppose to since he can't forget a face like mine. Now here is the thing, as it turns out my friend applied to the same job and has better credentials than me for that job and said she did great on the interview.....she didn't get the job. In a way I feel bad but what am I suppose to say "No" to a great job that can help me out?

I currently have 3 credit cards (excluding cards from stores) with credit limit of $6,300, $4000, and $2000. The first card has a $2000 balance on it, and the other two cards have $0 balance. Since the first card and second card have 0%APR, i only paid $700-800 every months and put the rest of the money into saving.

My question is, if i raise my credit limit, will it help or hurt my credit score? (my current score is 740)

Thanks :-)

I have a question. How is a woman getting pregnant relevant to how well she can perform a job? My dad works as an engineer in a major company and he has a male friend who works there and that we think of as a family friend of course. We know him well and he has been married to his second wife for a year or two. They are in their mid twenties to early thirties. The friends' wife worked at some major company. I have only met her a few times but now I can't remember what she does for a living. I think she had been at her job for about five to ten years or so. All of a sudden she gets pregnant and they fire her. Well, I asked my dad did they give her a reason for firing her like being late or bad job performance and he says no, they let her go for being pregnant. I think she works at an administrative type job. It has been a couple of months or so since they did so. Personally, I think she should sue them.

How much weight does an online degree carry when applying for a job? I saw a website recently that offered degrees based on your life or work experience. That sounds too good to be true. Does anyone know of the fastest, most cost effective way to obtain some type of degree without physically attending school that would have real credibility on a resume?

I inherited some money a while ago and thought about investing them, rather than saving them in the bank. Someone suggested to invest in land and I got in touch with a company throuh the internet about a week ago. Since this is my first investment I am being rather careful, but I had made up my mind to go with this company, but then I started to recieve alot of phone calls from them, asking when they could have the money and these phonecalls came from different people within the company and I'm feeling rather put off by the intesity of their behavior. They even suggested that I could have the investment cheaper if I would put up the money straight away. This has led me to doubt their sincerity, even though some say it is a well establihed firm.
Please I need your opinion on this?

I am living with somebody and we are both almost out of graduate school. For the first time in a long time, we will both have a good income. But we will also have school debts and we have other goals, like getting a house, minimizing our taxes and cleaning up our past credit issues. What kind of financial professional should we consult with? Tax attorney, financial planner, accountant, or something else? We are in the USA. Also, if you have approximate rates we can expect to pay and how long this sort of planning would take, that would be great.
