If chosen for the job, how would you respond to those applicants who were not chosen if they were to discuss disappointment or envy?

This is a position with customer compliance.

Yes, this is an internal position. I am already employed with the company and they are hiring for this position from within.

I would shake thier hands, smile, and thank them for providing stiff competition. Tell them you see many wonderful qualities in them and that you are sure they will succeed next time in landing a job. Wish them luck and wave goodbye, as they all leave the room that you get to remain inside!

I don't think I'd have to talk to any of the other applicants, unless they were other in house employees trying for the same job. If I were to talk to them, I'd be positive about it, such as in dissapointment: Well, better luck next time, and maybe you can do something to enhance your skills/area of expertise in order to get the job in the future. I wish you luck. With envy, I'd also be positive about it, and pretty much say the same thing as in the dissapointment answer.

My answer would be that I would not discuss it in depth except maybe to say that things often happen for a reason and I'm sure they'll find the right fit for them soon too.
