I am studying law but when I read disparaging remarks
and jokes about lawyers (What do you call a lawyer at
the bottom of the ocean? A start.) I worry.
Do lawyers really command such little respect out there?

Will bankruptcy hurt me in the long run, meaning I'll still be able to purchase a car or a house. How will it affect my credit even though it clears all that you owe. And do you need a lawyer to declare bankruptcy. Also do you have to go through councling before declareing bankruptcy? Need some intellegent facts because I plan on doing this. Thanks

History : Through a previous (approx. 10 years ago) divorce I signed the deed and/or note and all rights over to ex husband for house. He stopped making payments and house was foreclosed and it is showing up on my credit report. I have disputed this potentially negative item twice. It states that I have joint responsibility with ex. How is this? Can I get out of this? How long does a foreclosure typically stay on a credit report? PLEASE someone, any advice?

My laptop Compaq Presario is covered under 3 year warranty by Staples. When a defect cropped up I was instructed by Staples that they would send a pre-labelled, postage pre-paid, box to me, and I have to return my laptop to Fedex in the box. I did the same and was expecting the repaired laptop in 3 weeks time. 4 weeks later, on enquiring from Staples, I was told that the laptop had not reached them in the first instance, and I should check with Fedex. On calling up Fedex I was told that they have the Return Airway bill no. on their computer but they don't have a track of the package as apparently the package has not been delivered to them. They also promised to investigate from the drop box /collection center of theirs where the box was left. They never checked with their agent, and never got back. Staples , nor Fedex have not got back to me despite repeated calls since 3 months-I dropped the box mid April. Without taking a legal action is their a Fair Trade Practices Authority or so ?

I have a friend who happens to have a bad credit score and is trying to find a decent job. Why do companies care about a credit rating of a potential employee? Wouldn't it be kind of difficult to better your credit without being able to get a good job!?

i dont know why, but i only thought of this now. also, why is george washington on the dollar, and the quarter? Lincoln also has two. why not put FDR on a coin? why do they pick certain presidents (or not, like ben franklin) to be on certain coins or dollars?

For example, you have $1000 gross paycheck - you withold 3% for regular 401k, and 3% for roth 401k to be deducted. Say for example taxes are $250. So, for the regular 401k the employer would withhold $30 ...so after taxes and regualr 401k, the net woudl be $720. Does the Roth 401k calculate based off of the $720, or $750, or $1000?

I am in chapter 13 (3 years into it), still have about 2 years left to pay everything off. My car is under this BR and the engine is shot and the transmission is going out. I need a car for work. The dealerships I have talked to said no bank would finance me even with an approval letter from the trustee of the BR. Any advice at all? I found good used ones from individuals but again, I would need a loan. I'm stuck with no way to work!!
