My natural hair color is medium brown.
I would love to go a dark shade of blonde/light brown. I do I go about this??

All my jeans are blue, different shades of it, but still blue. The only different ones i have are beige. There are other colors for pants, but i haven't gotten any because i don't know what to wear them with. I feel like they'll look tacky. I recently dyed my hair a dark brown, but it came out black. I only dyed it to even out the brownish and blonde tones from an old dye job. I want my natural medium brown color back. I am thinking about dying my now black hair a very light brown. It says on the box that it will dye black hair to a dark brown, but I'm not too sure. I think that if I use this color and get a dark brown that in a week or two I can go even lighter, back to it's origional color. It's been 4 days since I dyed my hair. It's a semi permenant black, but hasn't faded, despite efforts (washing with dawn, bleach water, special shampoos). Should I just do it myself? I have no money to go to a salon anytime soon, and I absolutely DISPISE the black. I'm not goth and I look it :(

Recently I have been getting a lot of split ends. I usually have healthy, shiny hair but that has been changing. Now I spend my time in class searching for split ends. I made an appointment to get a trim, but I was wondering, how on earth did I get them? I don't ever blow dry my hair, I have never dyed it (unless for 1 day for a special event, none recently), I have not had a lot of stress, and I am using regular shampoo/conditioner (vive). It is really cold where I live and I take my doggie on a walk every day. My mom had really bad split ends when she was my age (but she had hair down to her back, I have it halfway down my arms. So is it genes? Or is it vitamin deficency? My nails actually look pretty healthy, strong, not brittle. Also, if it helps, my hair always gets super staticy, which attracts particales of dust, so I often find dust bits in my hair. Any way to get rid of those?

Please only answer if you have a source, not a hunch!
