I know you say you don't want to use rollers, but do you mean just the hard ones?
Soft rollers are a pretty good alternative -- I've had good results with some called "solar rollers" (no idea why) after applying mousse and drying about halfway.
It sounds like you have the same kind of hair I have, determinedly straight! Now that it's halfway down my back I'm unable to get it to curl as well as it did at shoulder-length. The reason I'm telling you all that is this: If you're hoping for everyday curls, you might consider taking a couple inches off (if you can spare it!).
Best of hair luck!

I know you don't want to scrunch but do this
1. Take a shower
2. Put hair in a towel and get as much water out as possilble. Then wrap back in a towel until slightly damp
Apply a MOUSE. Such as Garnier XXX volume or Herbal Essence Volume mouse or Curl Mouse
3. Put small amount all over hair
4. Blowdry your hair upside down with a difusser scrunching at the same time until almost fully dry
5. Flip hair over and use diffuser on the sides
This worked the best for me and it took me a long time to find anything that worked
6,. USE SMALL CURLING IRON TO FIX THE REALLY STRAIGHT PEICES (if any) ON THE TOP
Good Luck

Try pin curls. Wet your hair and twist small sections of it and use a bobby pin to hold them down. Let it dry and wala, curls when you take the bobby pins out. I have very fine straight hair and this trick works every time....and the curl don't go flat until you wash it again.

if your hair is naturally straight no product is going to miraculously going to make it curly... you have to use a curling iron or rollers and if the weather is to humid you'll lose your curls. Sorry.
