Have you made the switch to digital? I have a 4 x 5" field camera, and am finding that getting film is getting tough, and that (unless you have a darkroom) developing film using the Zone System is near impossible. Plus, with the quality of digital cameras and since most EVERYTHING is digital these days, is it time to make a change? Would love feedback.....

Hey guys, i really want to start taking pictures (good pictures) and i want to buy a new camera. I'm not really that excited about buying a $700 one like my friend has but if thats what it comes down to then idk...
but anyways, i don't know anything about cameras so if you have any suggestions on nice cameras (brands, types) that aren't too expensive, that'd be great!

I have recently become interested in Taking pictured of Infants, and it turns out, I am pretty good. Does anyone know a good digital camera with those fancy black and white or sepia effects on it? Id like a good one. Also, Does anyone Know of a company that does picture printing? Id like to be able to have the families choose the pictures they like and have them printed for them. Does anyone know of a website that offers ideas on props or backgrounds or lighting tips and techniques? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Starting with the daguerreotype and continuing to present times, photography has evolved from a very difficult, tedious, time consuming, expensive process, that only professionals used, into a quick, efficient, relatively inexpensive medium practiced by just about everyone. Digital photography as I see is just a continuation of this historical trend. So the question I pose is what is next? Perhaps new camera design, software, print technology? I personally feel that print technology is not where it should be in comparison to the advances that have been made in sensor technology, but I would like to hear opinions.

I use an HP R717 Photosmart Camera and I love it. I love to take pictures and I love taking pictures of mostly nature because the animals, trees and clouds don't object about having me photograph them or need to stop to dress up, comb their hair or put on make-up. I would like to take more professional looking pictures. How do I improve on my photographing?

Hi, I am thinking about taking up photography, and have no professional training whatsoever. Naturally, I have more than a few questions about how to get started. I'm interested in taking crisp, clean, primarily black and white photos, but have no idea what kind of camera to get? And what's the advantages and drawbacks to film versus digital? I don't have room or money for a darkroom of any sorts, and taking them to a WalGreens or something to get developed isn't really cool, so what are my options? Can I get a decent camera at a store like WalMart, or should I look for a more specialty kind of store? Any helpful websites I should look into? Is it necessary to take classes, or should I see if I have any amount of talent first? Thanks in advance!

Will the price of the Fujfilm S3 Pro UVIR go up or down? It's the cool camera Fujifilm made that sees all the way from infrared to ultraviolet. The new price was $1900 for body only so I didn't buy one right away. I saw one on ebay for just $1500 including two lenses. That's such a good deal, I'm tempted to buy one right away, especially since it's been brought to my attention that Fujfilm only made 500 of these. I can afford it. My problem is because of my job I won't be able to use it until a year from now. That brings up the obvious question: should I buy it now or wait a year? Normally, things come down in price over time so that's what I'm tempted to do. On the other hand, if it becomes a collector's item I don't' want to miss by chance to get it at a reasonable price (or at all!).

What is the easiest way to determine the equivalent of an exposure of an F-Stop to its shutter speed.

ex. f/2.8 % 500 is equivalent to f/4 @ 250

and f/4 @ 250 is equivalent to f/ @ 500.

I recently saw a website with a very nice effect in a photo. It actually can reflect the same image in the bottom of the picture. Like when you go to the field and in the shore of a lake you can see the reflex of a mountain on the water. What is that effect? Is it photoshop?

I know what are the best angles of my face. I know what colors look good on me. One would think, being a dancer, I even know how to move. I have some pretty good action shots. But apparently, I don't know how to freeze in normal life and look humanly natural. What makes a pose look natural? Some say, "look confident", but my theory is - unless you already look confident, attempting to look confident will make you look stupid. And how can one look confident or not confident by just standing or sitting there? Any advise?

I can understand if you're a commercial photographer and you have an assignment you have to fulfill to expect specifications, but for creative and artisitic photography, why are so many digital photographers so obsessed over the most minute tech details. Most artists--including photographers--do their best work by exploiting accidents or 'mistakes.' For example, photographers will get obsessed over reducing noise when 'noise' can be used as a creative artifact--if you're so hung up about getting it 'right,' I'd think you're limiting your chances of doing really original work. Pros and cons to this view?

Can an LCD computer monitor be calibrated? I had a Spyder Pro2 and went through the whole process three times. Each time, everything turned a not so lovely shade of blue. I gave up and sold the Spyder on eBay. I have since read that you can't really calibrate an LCD monitor.

What's your experience with this?

Thanks.

I plan on being a photographer when I grow up and I'm getting a job soon so I can buy a camera. I need to learn how to take better photographs. I was going to get a Nikon D40 but in your opinion what is the best photographer's camera out there. ( less than $1,000)
