Hi,

So.. I've got a Canon 30D.. BUT, I don't have a great deal of knowledge in the photography world. I'm picking up slowly.. but unfortunately the college I'm at doesn't cover photography in any way, shape of form..

I was wondering if any of the fantastic photographers out there could share some techniques or tips to improve my photos??

please take a look at my gallery to see the sort of stuff I'm into..

I'm looking to try out anything..

thanx :D

Based on your sunset images you might like to try actual night photography. http://photography.about.com/od/nightphotography/ss/NightPhotog.htm

There are lots more ideas on the site as well.

Go to AIRC-Adorama Imaging Resource Center and click on SFX Photography. I'm a fan of double and multiple exposures which I can do in-camera. If your camera can't do that, Elinor Shecker-Orel, instructor at NYIP, explains how to do them in Photoshop.

I also like night photography, using a tripod and cable release and long exposures. Visit fotosharp.com and buy their "Day & NIght Exposure Guide" for best results. Here is but one example: 'City skyline in distance', ISO 200, f8 for 15 seconds.

I've also set up my tripod in the front seat of my car and used a camera with a motor drive, ISO 200, and a 28mm lens at f8 focused at infinity, and a long cable release (placing the lens as close to the windshield as possible) and driven around well lit city streets taking 15 second exposures. If you're really lucky you can do this after a nice rain.

I also enjoy macro photography. You'll need a real macro lens like the one Canon offers. A true macro lens will give you a life-size image on your sensor.
