What is the general consensus here about this question? Please keep in mind that I want to know what YOU do yourself and what you think most people do ...

DO YOU USE 1 SPACE OR 2 AFTER A PERIOD IN A SENTENCE?

I think that Jackson Pollock is a great artist, don't get me wrong. I just don't understand how No. 5 can go for 140 million. A painting like No. 5 is exceptionally personal, and I would think would only have that much value to the artist himself. You can tell his work is not about the ending, but about the process involved, yet others pay more for it than ANY other artist (including Monet, Van Gogh, Picasso, etc.)

I just don't understand how from a purely financial standpoint, Pollock is better than any one else.

I have to paint an ornament of a horse in the style of any relatively famous artist. I don't want the artist's style to be too difficult to mimic or too abstract as the painting has to be quite accurate and true to life. I also don't want any very obvious artists like Van Gogh, which would be by using swirls in the paintwork and bringing in certain colours, but that is the sort of thing I am looking for. I have looked in the past at Franz Marc and if possible I would like an artist who uses quite true to life colours, but this is not necessary.

Please remember the topic of study is a horse! ie an artist with an interesting style of painting scenery would not be that appropriate, as I don't need to paint the background.

Thanks so much for answering!!

I am used to B&W contact prints from my 8x10 Deardorff and my 12x20 Folmer view cameras. Nice and sharp. Clean and with excellent detail. Rich deep blacks to sparkling whites in prints I do on traditional silver chloride papers.

Have tried a few scans from the negs and had them printed by a few digital labs.

None of the digital prints come close to the contact prints.

What is wrong with digital that it can't match 60 year old technology?

Sometimes people will say "Wow!! How much did your camera cost to do a beautiful picture like that"? I will say (And this reply makes my wife angry) "My camera cost me 50 dollars. I picked it up at a second hand store". (Now, This is after I used a three light set up with a Monte Zucker background and a light meter to make sure I got it all right) I love to see the look on people's face when they think my camera is 50 dollars and I have a 10 dollar lens on it. (Lens 105.....2.8)

I'm thinking I may want to start a home-based photography business in the next couple years - weddings, senior pictures, things like that. I was wondering if anyone had any advice/recommendations. I know I'll need a professional quality digital camera, an office in my home, good photo editing software, and maybe some set ups for pictures. I'm kind of confused, when you use a digital camera, and edit online, where do you get the prints from? Do you order them online? Do you order them from a photolab? Any advice/recommendations will be greatly appreciated, thanks!
