I've had 1 year experience with an OK digital consumer camera and are limited to my town, half-day trips to chicago and occasional vacations to tourist traps (disney, etc.) Keep in mind I'm no professional with tons of equipment and locations, but be constructive in judging me...

Currently, I have a large canvas painting in the entrance wall. It is a flower and is bright pink and blue in colour. I want to hang another painting nearby. What colour schemes and styles would compliment it? The painting I have is kind of modern and girly. Thanks

Are Cokin filters worth buying? I don't have a lot of money to get the best of the best. I hear they scratch easily, but I'm one who is very careful with equipment. Thanks for advice.

At my high school, all seniors have to undertake a big project in order to graduate. The neat thing is that we can do pretty much anything we want, so long as it's challenging. I decided to make a documentary about the concept of home (as opposed to just a place where you live), and the different cultural geographical points of view for the concept of "home." I'm filming in a bunch of different cities, and I want to include music to characterize the uniqueness of each of the cities.

I have to basic questions:
1) Would I have to gain permission from the artists in order to use their music in my film? Like I said, it's a project for school, so I wouldn't be making any profit. If it does really well I might enter it into a couple of local film festivals, but again, I wouldn't be doing it for profit.
2) If I do need to gain the artists' permissions, how would I go about doing that?

Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

This has puzzled me for a long time.

I love b&w images (especially real ones done with b&w film) but there doesn't seem to be any intelligence out there as to when to use b&w and when not to.

Obviously each technique prompts a different response in the viewer -- but what response?

Can anyone shed light on this issue?

Ok I hear headshots and a few other terms.

Generally I only do a little people work, mostly Camera Operating not stills.

The terms used are : ECU - extreme close up, CU, MCU -medium CU, MS - mid shot, LS - long shot, WS - wide shot.

What are the portraiture terms for stills? Are there such terms?

In my earpiece I might hear "pan left then goto a MCU of xyz"

How do you communicate compositions of people?

Sorry so unclear my English is a work in progress, thanks for patience!

I don't know about you, but I don't really have the time or resources to go exotic places to take pictures (unless its a family vacation) so most of my pictures are urban or suburban locals. I think that my pictures are still interesting, though-but what would you prefer, an exotic area or the exotic in the usual?

Snapshooters...whatever.

I've scoured the web looking for an image of this illustration and have had no luck. I've seen references to the work here:

but can't find an image. Help!

I HAVE A PAINITING THAT WAS PAINTED BY MAURICE UTRILLO I HAVE HAD THIS PORTRAIT OVER 30 YEARS, ITS OIL ON CARDBOARD CANVAS ABOUT 29 3/4 X 23 3/4. I REALLY CANT UNDERSTAND THE NAME ON THE PORTRAIT BECAUSE ITS WRITTEN IN FRENCH. I HAVE TO ASSUMPTIONS OF WHAT IT COULD BE....
1. EGLISE DE LTRINIS(LEINE)
2. EGLISE DE LITRINIS(LEINE)
THE PICTURE LOOKS LIKE A TOWN ON THE RIGHT SIDE WITH THE FOLLOWING NAME OF CORDONN ABOVE A DOOR, ON DOWN THE PORTRAIT THERE IS A PICTURE OF A CHURCH STEEPLE THAT HAS A CROSS ON THE VERY TOP.. ACROSS THE STREET ITS A WALL WITH TREES BEHIND IT IN FRONT OF A BUILDING..

I just wanted to know if you can print individual very large prints of film so you don't print every single picture (like if you have 10 good pictures but the others you don't think deserve to be in large format). Also I wanted to know if you could view them before you print large because I don't mind paying for some bad 4 by 6's or something small like that but they can get expensive when they're big).

Basically I wanted to know if you can tell whether it's worthy of large prints before you make large prints in any way.

I found plenty of websites that sell software on paning and zooming, and I found plenty that tell you how to use software to pan and zoom.

But what are some good websites that tell you how to pan and zoom correctly, so your audience will be impressed with the effects rather than annoyed?

I am taking a black and white photography class. I have never taken photography. I need a 35mm film camera, but I can't afford to buy one new, and I don't want to have to wait for my turn to use a class camera. Some stores sell them used or refurbished, I don't know if it's worth it. I'm also confused about what kind of camera I need, and do I need to buy a lense or do they come with the camera? I am so clueless.

Any advice would be appreciated.
