I have a watercolor etching dated 1942 by vassil Ivanoff. He became a renowned ceramicist in France.?

The watercolour is titled "The Russian Coachman" Any idea`s on value. I`m thinking of selling?

There are more than several listings for this name, in various books, catalogues, and on the net. There's V. Ivanov, Vassilli Ivanov, Vassili Ivanoff, Vassil Ivanov, Vasili Filipovitch Ivanov (-off), all with similar dates and ..some much older (17th and 18th c.), your piece perhaps, could be an afterstrike of one of the latter. However, there are paintings by an artist that have sold that are in the same date range: see link : http://de.artnet.com/artist/682692/vasili-filipovich-ivanov.html yet these works are clearly segregated from that of the sculptor's but given multi-translations, it might be the same.

Vassil Ivanoff was the son of Maria Koitcheva and Ivan Ivanoff. After the First World War, become teacher, it started studies of visual art, painting, drawing and theatrical decoration in Bulgaria. Installed in France in 1922, it followed several occupations until 1945 such as painter, house painter, decorator, painter on fabrics and photographer of art.

There's no way to place a value on this. Your artwork needs to be seen and authenticated to determine the artist and medium. I would take a photo and send it to a reputable house like Swann Galleries, an auction house that specializes in prints. I hope that this helped and I wish you good luck!

Is it a watercolor, an etching, or an etching with hand-coloring? It will make a great deal of difference in the price if it is only one, rather than part of an edition.

I think you need to get it appraised.

Go on that show they have on TV. It's the auction or something like that where they appraise items people have. Then you could set it up for an auction if it's of value.

It's quite old... and it's historic too. I'd say start at about $5,000 and go higher
