Hi Lauren,
If you're asking that because you want to paint/draw one, my answer is : paint what you see. When painting metal objects or reflective objects, one should abstract from the object itself and paint the abstracts that compose the object.
To paint is alot about learning to see.
If it's not about this, then I don't really know... :-) Maybe it's what reflects ? Or black in the absense of light :-)

One may say that a mirror is silver or chrome colored. My cousin always said that if white reflects other colors, then mirrors must be white. What a thought...

in true mirrors are silver,
in a painting they are sometimes negative space, or white or a "reflection" of what ever the artist decides to put in there.

actually a mirror(most of them)are glass that have a silver,or chrome color painted on the back of the glass.
