I want to be able to draw comics, characters, etc. But how? Newspaper comics now-a-days seem like they would be extremely simple to draw, but then when i attempt to draw any of them, they always turn out horrible. MIKEY also asked this question, but a little different. I'm asking again because he also didn't get very many responses, and i was hoping maybe more people would read this one.
I'm looking for something easy to draw, but it looks good. It's not for buisness or anything, i just want to be able to draw for fun. Thanx

My great aunt, Louise Kelly, painted from the 1920's thru the 1940's making attractive paintings mostly of Mexico near California and of the villages and coast of New England along with a few parrots, some French scenes and some upper midwest scenes. Her paintings are clearly signed with her name in printed letters, most often in the lower left, but sometimes lower right. I would like to locate as many of her paintings as I can, just for the record, not to buy them.

I am new to oil painting and have been trying to figure out how to make my own stand oils and brush cleaners.
I've noticed that supplies are much cheaper if you buy them from hardware stores (in much larger quantities) than art stores, but I'm not sure if they are adequate replacements.

Here's a little of what I've come across:
Is boiled linseed oil (hardware product) the same as purified linseed oil (art product)?

For turpentine replacements: Is turpatine the same thing as turpenoid? Are they odorless?

Are (odorless) mineral spirits or low-odor paint thinners adequate substitutes?

I'm assuming that a decent stand oil would consist of equal parts of oil and thinner. Is this correct?

Any other suggestions for a beginning oil painter?

Hi,

I'm a tremendous fan of Caravaggio and the Tenebrist style of the Baroque period (both in Spain and Italy).

Does anyone know of similar, contemporary painters?

* I do not mean abstract tenebrists.

I am working on this page for a circle journal, it's called "old things" I want to add bones to my piece but they have to look old first. Any ideas how to make bones, such as cicken bones, look old and dirty? I would like for them to look at least 5 years older.
