Visual Arts (Arts & Humanities) - August 2006

I've decided that I want to get more into my artistic side. I'm very analytical person, so drawing can be difficult for me to do, although I love to look at and admire other's creations. I want to find simple pictures, ones that are fairly basic, without a ton of detail, to begin with. Does anyone know of some really good pics or real life things that I could start with? I just want to be able to use the other part of my brain to become a more creative person.

Anyone got a good Irish joke? How about a cheer?

I'm suppose to embellish something and add some "merriment" to it. I was thinking a good joke....or a cheer, maybe. Would love some people's input before I get started. Thanks!

how do I create video montages?

or what is a good website that will do it for me?
what i am trying to do is take a song and add still photo's as well as video like news footage and such to create a moving production at church....its almost like those emotional songs on the music channels where they mix a lot of stuff together and it makes you wanna cry. kinda like michael jackson's "man in the mirror" video anyone know?

Colors give moods?

I'm painting this picture and I'm wondering what type of moods certain colors evoke to different kinds of people. Here's a list of colors I made:
1. yellow
2. blue
3. pink
4. orange
5. white
6. black
7. red
8. purple

How could I best draw & animate the rainbow to depict it as a symbol of God/the trinity?

I am creating a website with my art to bring back the original purpose of the rainbow--as a covenant between God and man. We all know it as a symbol of corruption, and when we see it we automatically think anything but God. I am working on a flash animation that will use symbols like the pyramid, clouds and the rainbow to depict it as a true vision of the Lord. The Lord is described as a green rainbow in Rev. 4:3, (think Emerald city from the Wizard of OZ) and want to make it appear after a flood, or some haphazard event perhaps. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated as this is to benefit the all those on the cusp of belief!

Distinction between pro and amateur?

I just started learning photography in June. I am told that I take beautiful photos and, that I have an eye for composition, by both amateur and professional photographers. A few people have told me that my photos are better than some people out there that call themselves professionals. This positive feedback after only a few months of work has me considering pursuit of a career in photography. My question is, I realized that most of the pictures I take are of beautiful scenery thus, I am producing beautiful photos. How do I gauge if I have the talent to be a photographer or, if I just have an eye for beautiful scenery?

How would I seal my Oma's ashes into the bottom of a hollow pedestal of a clay pottery piece?

the clay cannot be refired or it will crack.
The hole that requires sealing is about the size of a coffee mug.

About SLR lenses?

I recently got a Canon 20D digital camera for my birthday and am intersested in upgrading from the stock lens. While looking online I noticed that they all have a measurement of some kind labeled as f/2.4L or f/1.8S or something like that. What do those mean and what do I need to look for for a good wide angle lens and a good super-zoom lens for various action and city shots?
