it seems contradictory for evolution to produce ego alongside intelligence. On the one hand its nice to ensure our short term dominance but will it be compatable with longterm human survival? In essence, will we sell ourselves out?

Where was the human race 3000 years ago--at the height of developing an advanced verbal language full of expression and ideas, on the verge of written communication, staring at the stars in wonder?

Where are we now--on the cusp of a new age of technology, with a faltering grasp on the future, capable of destroying ourselves and everything we know?

But, what does any of it matter?

We are human beings, mammals of this earth, evolved from the eons of natural selection, mutations, and social interactions within our species. We are similar to all life forms on this planet, but what truly seperates us? Is it our dreams, our connection to one another, or our desire for survival and peace? No, it is none of those things. It is nothing, except for an illusion of advancement.

Okay, I have wondered this, and never found a complete answer: how can you truly know what is right and wrong? I mean, how do we have a conscious? How do we even know that our actions are truly "the right thing to do''? I mean, the fact that we've been taught certain actions and principles are the right is most likely a main chunk of the reason, but how else?? I know it can't be due to any religious reasons....
