Although many people believe that atheists believe in nothing (as evidenced by some answers on this board), most of us know that's not true. Atheists simply don't believe in God(s). Period. But everyone believes in something and God is certainly not everything. What do you believe in?

I have known many atheists and only one was militant in non-belief of anything non-empirical. (He ranted all day about how stupid people were to believe in "superstition" including everything thing from acupuncture to aliens to the apocalypse.) but most I've known were far more flexible. Some are even willing to accept non-empirical ideas outside the idea of God(s) such as ghosts, magic, astral projection, reincarnation, different "worlds" ect. How far do your beliefs go outside the empirical?

I don't need a definition of atheism and I'm not interested in knowing what you DON'T believe (I know you don't believe in God(s)) I am simply interested in what you do believe. Just curious.

There is no physical proof of god's existence...but regardless of weather or not there is an "all-mighty" to control all, there is some kind of "physical", tangible force one often feels(recognised most commonly as god), this force is what is behind the biological, chemical etc reactions.
but at the end of the day, this is only a physical forcre, just like gravity is. this force would be meaningless had there been no gravity to support it, likewise gravitational force would be meaningless without this force that we call god to support it.
gravity is just an example. all the forces(it has been established previously) are inter-dependant.
So basically, GOD, is just a physical force, that our ancestors could not properly understand( or did not try hard enough)..the same way a lot of people worship the sun. it has been established that the sun is just a star...in lay man's words its just a ball of hot gas....so doesn't it make sense to say that whorshipping "goid" is useless, because

I'm not talking about a "master-race" or anything like that. Just one individual. What would be the perfect human being to you? Would it even BE human, in the end?

Does anyone see the process of dreaming, something that we all spend a lot of our life time doing, as an arena for coming to a greater understanding of what consciousness is about. Or simply the ramblings of an un-ristricted, un-conditioned mind at rest.

it's almost impossible to comprehend the mystery and the infinity of life... no matter how much we try.. we cant comprehend life totally and rationally... at best our perceptions are just an assumption.. so is it possible to live our lives completely even when we fail to define the absolute meanings of life and its purpose?

I don't understand why everyone has to have irrational beliefs? Like, no matter how much you try to convince them of the truth, they reject everything you say. They can't even bring themselves to say 'it's an interesting point.'

If a frnd of yours is always available for you. Whenever u need an ear and shoulder that friend offers u always and u know that friend is always there for u.
So do u take that friend for granted or care less if u know that friend will come at ur one call, is just like a dorrmat to u.
Do u respect that friend? If u know that friend loves talking to u.. no matter how busy that friend is will make time for u.
so how would u treat this friend?

I feel my friend doesnt care for me as much as I care for her.
Do u think it will work if I get unavailable to her when she needs me?

Everything in this universe is relative to each other. Since that is true, how then can we be sure of any of the things that we normally take for granted.

For example, you are out with friends and you look over and see that one of your friends has an expression that indicates that your friend is saddened by something.

You do not know if that is the what is really going on. Yes, we are able to draw history to show us what may be in curtain situation, but my point is that we can never be sure.

That having been said, (and for our example) there are those born with an inability to read emotions at all. For them it is even harder to work out what is going on with the friend since the emotion just looks blank to them.

So my question is, how can we know anything for sure? Is it just a delusion that we know what is going on around us or is there something more to it?

Please note, this is not a nature of existence question, it is a nature of perception question.

Thanks.
