Philosophy - September 2006

I'm use to Enlighten Me, but I like the Name Riddle Me This, but that name seems to imply that I'm asking questions as opposed to Enlighten Me which seems as though I'm seeking answers, even though some people think that implies I know every thing, that I'm Enlightened.

Experiment. For example, somebody asks you 'What's the sound of one hand clapping?' Well, off you go with a tape-recorder, find a guy with only one hand, and tell him to clap. Am I missing something, here?

Some cats are very devoted to their owners, and some cats can seem completely alof and moody, as if tollerating your presence until it is annoyed and scurries off or takes a swing with its claws or nips you.

I've had a couple cats that at first were very sweet, but for some reason I never learned why, they just went bad. One simply tore out the screen on a window and ran away.

Like history and God. There have been many Gods and Goddess's throughout history, one is considered wrong and another is considered right, then voila, something in history changes and another concept is considered the right one. History is based upon who won the war. Do you ever think 'maybe' you are only repeating a myth?

i have my demons, my problems, etc. let's not talk about that because I don't want to be judged on them. I walked to high street today and ate some KFC and then went to goodwill and bought two t-shirts. as i left, a black guy was walking toward me. i see many black and white and other ethnic guys walking around but i automatically assumed that this guy is good looking but there is something wrong with him. call it intution. he only verified my suspicions by stopping me and saying "hey brother, can i pleasse as you for a favor?". he was very courteous and he put a lot of energy behind his pleading. but after glancing him in the eyes i decided to stick with my philosophy and walk away. i mean he is feeding into that stereotype of black guys always asking strangers for stuff. i knew it was going to be money. there is no reason why a grown strong and healthy man should ask someone, especially someone low down on the totem pole for a favor.

There's a limited amount of room on the spaceship to the new planet some kindly aliens have given us (they weren't using it). the PHILOSOPHICAL question is whether we can think at all without language... perhaps "consciousness" is the better term... Can I consciously think about a topic without language?

Try these...
Can you think of abstract concepts without language? (freedom, morality, love...)

Is emotional response the result of active thought (consciousness) or simple stimulus-response?

What about academic subjects that involve mathematics? Can you even begin to "think" them without the language of math (numbers and symbols)?

Why would any thing negative or bad or intolerent said about the islamic faith should not be considered an insult, but a form of freedom of speech, while any negative comment against jewish people is a form of anti semitic behaviour? Why would calling the prophet of islam a pig or an evil person and calling muslims sub human and making drawings about that in magazines and announcements about such things made by important and well respected religious figures like the pop is to be considered normal and an example of freedom and deservant of no reaction from the muslims, while a comment made by an actor(e.g. gibson) while drunk about the jews is considered an example of hatered and anti semitism and unacceptable behaviour?
Why isnist, for several hundereds of years that the jews are the source of all evil, the killers of the christ , and now the same hate is directed to muslims .
If christians are the more civilized, more mature and less violent, why then all this intolerence???

I ask on behalf of my daughter (11) who isn't allowed to roam online unsupervised. In her words;
"If you found a little hideous mutant alien child sitting on your doorstep crying, would you take it in and raise it? Would you be nice to it because it was a baby?"
