For the last 2 years I have seriously SERIOUSLY wanted to join color guard. But I never knew if i needed to already know how to twirl and toss and all that or if they would teach me that
and does anybody know what they do in auditions? for years I have watched different color guards perform and winterguards auditions were a couple of weeks ago and i just almost took it and auditioned but i was too nervous because there are a whole bunch of people on there who have been in color guard before of course they all got a part but im not sure i would because i have no experience whatsoever. if you could help a little i would appreciate it so so much!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I would love to learn the acoustic guitar and now that I finally have the time to learn I was wondering if you could give me some suggestions on starting off. I just want to be able to play the songs that I enjoy really. Is it necessary to get a teacher to learn proper technique, or can the guitar be picked up on one's own?

I have a solid background playing violin and I know I would commit to practicing regularly, so can I learn and get quite good on my own? Last question, would you recommend renting the guitar or buying one for someone who does not yet know how to play? Thanks a lot for your help.

I'm 28, have never played, but have always wanted to. I've reached the point where I really want to take learning how to seriously. I want to know what kind of guitar I should get, any books or online things that will help me, and about how long does it take to actually be decent at it. Thanks...

I have been playing for a year, most of the stuff I play is rock anything from alternative to heavy metal, my main problem is I'm not musically inclined at all, everything I've learned I've had to work my *** off for, i practice about 2-3 hours every day, more on the weekend. RIght now my main problem is that ive hit a wall. I have two questions I need new songs to learn to play and i need some prctice tips. to give some idea of my skill level right now I can play all of master of puppets except for the really fast part and i will follw you into the dark (i can do the picking pattern if i try)

Hey all.

Im a guitarist and have been for about a year now.

But the strange thing is that ive never really played others bands songs, i just play my own. I learnt House of the Rising Sun by the Animals and thats about it.

I think its because i dislike the whole practicing a song over and over. I feel its quite Mundane.

Now i personally think im not to bad at playing guitar, but i only ever write my own songs and just have a jam with myself if you know what i mean. I seem to just pick up a guitar a play with sounds if you get me

Now what i wanted to know is would this be a good thing or a bad thing. Bad becasue i dont have a massive library of songs i can play and its made learning a little slower.

But it must be good that im picking up my style of music and how i want to play guitar so early.

Im not quite sure. All opinions are greatly appreciated.

Cheers

I've been learning violin for 2 years and I'm still very not good at it.
Recently, I changed my violin teacher to a better one. She's a pedagogue. She really emphasis on the basic and the fundamental of violin.
Thank goodness I changed my violin teacher because I would not have realized my basic is very bad.
She commented on my bow holding, stroke and etc. Basically, it's all the fundamental stuffs.
After 5 months with her, I found out that I still can't hold the bow properly nor play notes with slur smoothly.
She said my posture is still so rigid.
And that makes me really wonder, why wouldn't my previous violin teacher mentioned anything about my posture, or the my style of playing?
I don't think I can continue anymore. I don't think I've any talent. I really wanted to do violin, but I've to face the real fact that I really do not have talent.

I am a beginner at playing the cello; I've played it for about six months now. I know practicing is a big part of becoming better, but what about doing that special hand movement that makes the notes...trill? Also, is there a really good way to tune the A string or do I just have to memorize what an in tune 'A' sounds like? Thanks! Any other tips/hints would be awesome.

I have taught violin and viola for over 20 years - just about every type of personality from age 2 1/2 to age 70. Along the way I have had a few students who were just really wasting their parents' money by not practicing. I have always tried to make it a policy to keep the parents abreast of how their children are doing so they can make an informed decision about whether to continue.

Recently I began teaching at a music store/school. One of my little violin students is a sweet 5 year old girl. She loves to come to lessons, and her mother comes in with her. Mom is supposed to be the home teacher (We are using a modified Suzuki program), but never works with her. She is completely aware that the girl is making no progress, as we do the same thing every week and I have spoken with her many times about practice.

The manager thinks I should just let it go and let her keep coming. I think I should recommend quitting. She pays almost $100/mo! What would you do?

I'm right-handed, but I use my left hand a lot, too (but I can't write with my left hand). The strange thing is that when I practice playing guitar, I use my left hand. I doesn't feel right to use my right hand. Why might that be?
