I'm purchasing a ticket for my Aunt -- a certain Orchestra is coming to town, and I want to make sure she has the best seats in the Opera house.

This really depends on the size of the auditorium and its shape. If it's a smallish theater, then I think balcony seats are often superior to the orchestra section. (At the Washington Opera, center balcony seats are as expensive or more than any on the lower level.)

Personally, I'd rather have a good seat in the balcony than be jammed all the way back in the orchestra section.

Bottom line -- a good orchestra seat is fine in general, but if what they have is really far back, balcony seats are fine too...and maybe even better!

For the best view and sound I would suggest about 7 or 8 rows back in the center of the house (audience seats) on the lowest level or the center front of the second level
