I've joined an evening class to learn about acting.

I enjoy the improvisation part of the night where small groups have 5 minutes to improvise a short sketch on a given topic - lovers parting; meeting an old school-friend in the street, angry response to a particular situation...

Can you advise on giving the characterisation a better sense of realism and depth for an audience - I tend to get really self-conscious about it and the scene falls apart.

How do you learn to play guitar and sing at the same time? I'm not very good at it, but I want to be. Is there a website that has exercises to practice? Advice?

Don't tell me to practice, I have and it hasn't gotten any better.

I was wondering what is the difference in sound and playing is between a wire strung harp, and a nylon strung harp?

As well.. is there any downsides to a celtic harp that is strung with 22 strings? I own a paraguayan harp of over 30 strings but I find that I had purchased one of lesser quality and it's size is an obstacle to me. I am looking for something lighter, a lap harp, that is still able to have the variability that is needed to play most kinds of music.

Thank you.

I'm looking into starting to play the acoustic guitar and I have no idea what I'm supposed to get.
I don't want a cheapo one, and I don't want an amazingly amazing one. I want a mid-range one because I already play a few instruments and this is going to be in use for a while before I buy a better one.
What would you suggest I get, or how much should I pay for one?

I'm doing a performance at school next week, and the moderator told me that my guitar has to be full acoustic (NO ELECTRIC or anything w/ cables or anything that can be plugged into an amp). I have a 1988 Ovation 1988-P Collector's Edition steel-stringed guitar, and I was wondering if that is a full electric or semi-acoustic/electric w/ built-in pickup?

I don't know if my school moderator would allow my guitar to be played on stage. =/

I am in high school, and I have played the violin since age 5. I absolutely hate it, mainly because I don't get anything out of it and my parents force me to do these things against my will. Also, I could also learn other more useful and common things that are cool anyway like guitar and actually get something out of it. I have seen other answers for similar questions, and they tell me to decide what is in my heart. I am absolutely ready to do this (the decision being to quit and do other things with my life), but the problem is that my parents cannot listen to my reasoning, and they continue ranting and raving about my transcript and my "career." So, how do I present a valid argument that can convince them to let me quit?

So I've just come to the realization that I want to learn guitar. After seeing the preview for Across The Universe in May, I went on a crazy Beatles downloading spree. I have fallen in love with their music, and now I want to learn how to play the guitar so I can play their songs. The thing is that I don't think I have time for private lessons, and I was thinking I could teach myself (I've heard ppl had success with this) and I was just wondering if anyone knows any books I could get that would help me, or maybe know of any other resources that could help me.

If I do get lessons anyone know what the pricing is about?

And how long do you think it will take for me to learn to play well and be able to start playing The Beatles?

Thanks a lot!!!

Jennnn

I want to find a regular acoustic that fits my small body and hands. I'm considering a parlor guitar. Any drawbacks?
