So I've just come to the realization that I want to learn guitar. After seeing the preview for Across The Universe in May, I went on a crazy Beatles downloading spree. I have fallen in love with their music, and now I want to learn how to play the guitar so I can play their songs. The thing is that I don't think I have time for private lessons, and I was thinking I could teach myself (I've heard ppl had success with this) and I was just wondering if anyone knows any books I could get that would help me, or maybe know of any other resources that could help me.

If I do get lessons anyone know what the pricing is about?

And how long do you think it will take for me to learn to play well and be able to start playing The Beatles?

Thanks a lot!!!

Jennnn

Contrary to the ads you see on the Internet and magazines, there are no instant guitarists. It takes months, even years, to reach certain plateaus of expertise.

Dependant on your motivation and will to excell--and to get past extremely sore fingertips--you can expect anywhere from three months to two years to reach a level of expertise wherein you can play many songs. This all depends on how much study and practice you put into chords and their progression, music theory, and rhythm techniques.

Every beginner wants to be an instant player. It just isn't so. Many of my students had become disallusioned after the first several lessons to find they are still struggling with sore fingertips and chord placement on the fretboard.

Seek a realistic goal through study and practice.

I tend to think of music as a language. When you were in Kindergarten, you spend 5 days a week writing capital and lower-case numbers. A year later you worked on some other stuff. It took a few years before you were reading full books though.
Guitar is the same way. You will learn basics today, but in a few years you'll be able to work your way through some tougher pieces. After 10 years or so, you'll really own the instrument.

i be attentive to a guy who began enjoying at sixteen and in basically 2 years he ought to play any Ozzy Osbourne or Van Halen song such through fact the solos. I messed around with guitar for 8 years and did no longer get 0.5 as sturdy as him,yet i did no longer attempt to. For the 1st 5 of those years i did no longer additionally be attentive to the guitar had to be tuned or what that meant. i did no longer take training,so how might i be attentive to? i assume it certainly relies upon on how agressive you're approximately studying and training. Take training or a minimum of examine it on line. study approximately song theory or all your song would be atonal like mine replaced into previously each and every thing. i got here across instruction manual gadgets to be proscribing while in comparison with what i will do with a sequencer and a synthesiser,so the pc is my tool now. Now i will write what ever loopy non-repetitive song i prefer and not hardship approximately training or memoriseing,i will automate the song. additionally,i will get a a lot wider form of sounds than with purely a guitar. nonetheless,i like to play a instruction manual tool each and every now and then purely for exciting, particularly drums, although i do no longer own them anymore.

Depends on which beatles songs you want to play. A lot of them are really easy and if you go on the internet and look up the chords you could figure them out really quick.

It all depends on your personal ability. You can learn something from day one - and every other day you practice.
