My daughter is reading and studying some of his speeches and letters and having to answer questions about them. Rest assured, she really has an appreciation for the speech of that time period, but we really want to dig into them more. We wanted to see if someone had put his speeches into current every day language. We found a "blog" where someone had translated his farewell address and it was helpful, but a little crude and out of character for George Washington. Anyone know of a site or even a book that has done this? I compare it to having different translations of the Bible for better understanding. While I still respect and appreciate the words, when I am studying, I understand them better in more modern language. I have asked this questions in different forums, hope I have better luck here.

During the Second World War, thousands of Waffen-SS soldiers were the guards of the horrific concentration camps, happily, willingly and enthusiastically taking part in atrocities such as shootings, gassings, raping and general slaughter of the unfortunate innmates, including Jews, gypsies, homosexuals and disabled people.
Thousands of soldiers...yet they have all seemingly disappeared. Where are they all now? Hundreds must have escaped capture at the end of the war. Have any surfaced? Correct me if I'm wrong!

After recent outpourings of garbage from the dictator Putin, the switching off of gas to some of his neighbours and just yesterday, that incident between Georgia and that Russian fighter aircraft, it begs the question, is the next Cold War around the corner.

If we look back to last year there was the incident with that ex-Russian agent-turned-journalist, who was poisoned in a London hotel. Russia is talking about a new rocket 'defence' system against the West. It seems the old tensions and tit-for-tat rhetoric are returning.

Or has the Cold War never gone away?

I can't rely on the text books because stuff that they have written is not all true. Many times we don't know our own history that well. I know many of our ancestors where kings and queens and had all that type of bling bling. America is good at hidding stuff they don't want you to know and it's still like that today. My mom said if I really want to know. I can go to China because back in acient timesAficans and Asian people would trade and they would share their history, stories and fabbles.
Where else do you think I can find the unadulterated truth about my history? I'm young and I want to know:)

From somewhere I recall that the term bourgeois may have come from a French word for the middle class merchants and tradesmen - the so called 'burgers' in the German medieval towns.
I just need confirmation if possible. I have not found this easily by internet search engines. Thanks!
