They felt it would be to their own best economic interest to take what they wanted, rather than respecting the tens of thousands of years of possession the natives had of the land. The Indians (in the US and elsewhere), the Aborigines (in Australia and elsewhere) and the Maoris (in New Zealand) were not "greedy": They simply refused to accept that more numerous and better armed Caucasians intended to push them off of their land and kill them if it was most convenient.

(I should know, as I am a well armed Caucasian, but perhaps not all that numerous as such.)

You use the term "Aboriginal" your not a U.S. citizen. You would have said "Indian or Native American" right ?

The settlers, many coming from your own country to escape the serfdom of English manors, came here to find a sense of freedom. The Government, believing they could control all the lands without understanding what would happen out there in the West, opened these lands.

They let all who wanted to take what they could use, forty acres or four hundred. The Native Americans were in fact, I don't want to use the tern "Greedy" but, were in fact under the belief they owned everything and just refused to share, to a point of killing. Life meant nothing to them. Men, women and children, were either killed, taken as slaves or, used as adopted members of the tribe if they were children.

The need for the land, the refusal of the native Americans to share started a war that went on for years. The population of the settlers was enormous, they came in waves, so many they counted and simply pushed their way in.

The Native Americans paid dearly for it, getting shoved further and further into oblivion.
