I have all these awesome ideas bouncing around and would really like to put them down on paper but I get so bored thinking about just one thing for so long. And thats basically what a novel is. One thing for hundreds of pages.
What tips can you give for someone that has trouble concentrating to get work done on something like a novel?

Do you use paper (e.g. hardback A4 journals)and pen, or just a PC word processor? Do you find using a PC impairs or affect the creative process of writing in any way?

Hello,

I know we are not all writers but anything begins with a first step. I think the same is true with books. I wonder how much thought an author puts in that very first line. What would your's be?

Thanks for taking the time to answer.

I am looking for a recommendation for my next sci-fi read. My favorite authors include Orson Scott Card and Vernor Vinge. I prefer books of the series nature but a strong stand-alone story will work also. So if you have a recommendation for these tastes please let me know! Thanks!

PS - Specific book/series titles would be appreciated! Ty

PSS - Sorry, if your not familiar with the authors I noted. I tend to lean towards the hard science genre not really into the fantasy side.

I'm trying to fing a speech by Socrates (Greek spelling Sokrates) in which he says that he despairs of the youth because they are lazy, disrespect their elders and parents, pay no attention to their studies and mock traditional religious beliefs.
Does anyone know where I can find this passage? It was in a Plato writing I think!

I was recently sold a signed book club edition and I questioned that it was a true first edition. However, the seller assured me that ,as with this book, there are cases in which book club editions are the true first editions. On the copyright page, the book does have the date as 1985 and first published by Viking Penguin, Inc. There is an ISBN number on the back of the jacket and on the inside flap at the bottom, it says, A Book of the Month Club Dual Main Selection. Please help and thanks to the person(s) knowledge enough to answer this question.

THE MAN HE KILLED

by Thomas Hardy

THE MAN HE KILLED -

'Had he and I but met

By some old ancient inn,

We should have sat us down to wet

Right many a nipperkin! -

'But ranged as infantry,

And staring face to face,

I shot at him as he at me,

And killed him in his place. -

'I shot him dead because-

Because he was my foe,

Just so: my foe of course he was;

That's clear enough; although -

'He thought he'd 'list, perhaps,

Off-hand like- just as I-

Was out of work- had sold his traps-

No other reason why. -

'Yes; quaint and curious war is!

You shoot a fellow down

You'd treat if met where any bar is,

Or help to half-a-crown.' -
