I really am seriously looking for ideas! Some of you have been helpful, some of you need to take a valium.
I've been putting my 'cabrobst' on every blog I can find. I have them listed at
http://cabrobst.multiply.com/
This includes myspace.
I have a free chapter on the web.
Yes, the title is intensionally tongue in cheek, there is a lot of humor in it.
I have a GeoCities site.
I can't afford to go on tour yet.
As far as this being advertising, how do I ask how to advertise it without letting you know it exists?
No agent, no manager yet. This first book is to hunt for some recognition so that I can afford those extravaganses. I'm not JK Rowlings!
I like Todd B,'s suggestion. Way, Dude!
kittyrogers is just plain snooty. You ever write anything, snootyrogers? No offense, just kidding, but please be helpful. I'm doing the best I can! Don't dismiss a book because of it's publisher. Maybe Penguin might pick it up someday.Jared G, are you a 'narcissist sociopath' or just being funny? Thanks

Hey Charles,

Be careful not to be interpreted as selling here. That would be a violation of the community guidelines.

A smart published author, like yourself, should be able to research marketing on the internet.

I'm a SciFi fan. I'll buy your book.

Marketing ideas: Make a copy of your book cover in the size of a postcard and run off about 500-1000 and get yourself just as many postcard US postage stamps and pull out your mailing list.

If you have a local radio station in your area, give them a call and see if they'll let you talk about your book on air. There's a lot of people who listen to the radio as they're going to work.

Give your local library a copy or two of your book.

Drop them off at small book stores.

Some of the coffee shops/cafes invite writers in for readings. You can sell a few copies while you are doing that. Some of these places have books laying around for patrons to read while they're sipping at the coffee. Give them a complementary copy.

Let your local newspaper know that you've written a book. They may not run your story for the simple fact that you've self published. (I don't understand this mentality, but it's prevalent.)

I've even seen book ads posted on grocery store and etc. bulletin boards.

If you got a couple bucks, you can buy ads on calendars, in magazines and newspapers.

Self promote every chance you get. Word of mouth is the most powerful tool.

Good luck and I mean that.

A good way would be to create a myspace page and that will grab attention and you could start getting sales and mabye your local library will put it on the shelfs for checkout and then people will read it and want to buy it . Or sale some on ebay. And you can create a website . hope i could help.

Go to major search engines and purchase listing for key terms related to your book, that way when people do relevant searches, they come up with your product, this requires a website with pertinent information.

The best thing will be to create your own web site, and also talk to friends about it. Eventually you will find many customers. Good luck!
