Every year I try to buy several books on ghosts and/or true hauntings. It's sort of a Halloween tradition. I mainly buy them for my mother who enjoys them a great deal,... but I must confess I enjoy scaring the hell out of myself as well with a good scary true story.

Could any and all people interested please post some of your best true ghost/hauntings books and the author please so I can get an idea as to what to buy this year? The Halloween season is only a couple months away and I'd like to get them ordered so they'll be here in time.

Thanks

Something that doesn't drag, is thought-provoking, preferrably with a cartharsis.

...such as Lord of the Rings, the Narnia cycle, the Dark is Rising sequence, etc.

Do you read fantasy? Why do you read fantasy? Do you discuss it with friends or keep it your own.....dark....secret? :-)

I need to do a book for my Honors L.A. class. 2001 SO is my back-up plan, but I'm looking for a book that's like Tuesdays with Morrie, but fiction, because TWM is light-hearted, yet still is thought-provoking. Preferrably a book that produces a "catharsis".

I'd like to read more of the sorts of books that really move people. Mine's _Harriet the Spy_, by the way, because that's what made me decide I wanted to be a writer.

Why are there so many release dates for New Moon?

First I heard, from www.stepheniemeyer.com, that the book was originally going to be released in August, then it changed to September, and then there was talk of October. On www.amazon.com it says the book will be released August 21... I assumed it was going to be released September 6, because that's what I was told by a Barnes & Noble employee and was shocked by a text message I receieved from a friend informing me that she had finished the second book, New Moon.

All is well, however, for I have the book. I finally bought the book yesterday night (as it was released August 6 in my state) and finished in the early hours of the morning (2AM, on a school day) today. I'm in love, truly.

Bf suggested I write a book about my life - it has been rather a tumultuous one - in a slightly comedic manner of course or it will be a saga.
I'd like to but I'm a bit rusty with my writing.

I've been reading a series of books for awhile (won't name it, don't wanna spoil anything) that has a lot of mature themes in it. It deals with incest, bestiality, genocide, has graphic descriptions of death, gruesome monsters...much of it in detail. And at the end most of humanity is killed off. But it does have some nice messages. Good guys come out on top, etc.

My question is: what age would be good for a child to read this series? Or maybe just portions of it?
Thanks for any input.

I'm so adgravated!!! grr!?

Alright. Here's my story. I'm twenty years old. I'm very ambitious, but idealistic at the same time. I hate to come off as some fool who is wasting his or her life, but I've wanted to write and travel for as long as I can remember. I've went to college, but for now, I'm taking a break for a semester to work full time so that I can visit Europe later this year. I am also working on a story--one that is very dear to me--that I've been working on for quite some time. I just feel so adgravated though, because by the time I get home from work (I even went over time last week), I'm dead tired. Part of going to Europe is to find purpose and inspiration to help me with my goals. Writing is so imporatant to me. I have so many ideas, but no energy to turn them into something tangible by the time I get home every evening. I know I need to make time, and not stress, but I'm a bit of an over achiever and I do have a tendency to over analyze when I'm tired and put pressure on myself.

I have to read Pride and Prejudice for summer reading; and frankly it is boring and hard to pay attention to. I am an avid reader; but haven't had these problems ever. Many girls I know say they love it, (not to be sexist, but I think it appeals to them more) but I simply am having a hard time with it. Please help!

I was reading the well loved classic mysteries of Sherlock Holmes, written by A. Conan Doyle, and a question came to mind. What is Dr.Watson's first name?! I've read so many of the Sherlock Holmes books and I never once saw the first name of the doctor. Did the writer give him a first name, or does he just have a sur name?
If he doesn't have a first name, I would give him the name....Gresham. Gresham Watson. I like that.
