Sadly their is no easy way to publish a book but since I am in the same boat I will give you the best advice that I can. Go out and buy the book "Writers Market 2006" it has over a thousand listings for publishers as well as agents. Your best bet would be to query to both publishers and agents. Say you wrote a romance novel then you would want to find a list of agents or publishers who specialize in the romance department. The easiest way to get published is to write for your local newspaper. Send in opinion pieces to the editor or maybe agree to do freelance. Publishing a book is hard but the key is to not give up.

First, dont query both agents and publishers, unless you have just one or two publishers you really want.... lots of agents shy away from stuff that's already been unsuccessfully "shopped'". They cant try and pitch something an editor already turned down.

The "easiest" way to publish a book is pay to have it printed and sell if to your friends. But you'll never walk into a random book store and see yours on the shelf.
