Bf suggested I write a book about my life - it has been rather a tumultuous one - in a slightly comedic manner of course or it will be a saga.
I'd like to but I'm a bit rusty with my writing.

Thought about writing it starting off with a short chapter of the start to a letter to someone close to me that doesn't know about everything that's happened, then switching to part of the story itself (names changed) and every now and then adding a short chapter which is an excerpt from the letter.

People tell me this all the time. The problem I have about it is, the very people who tell me to write it would be in it and how would they feel about the way I would tell it? Would it hurt my parents to know what I really got up to when I was partying in 30 different countries or just how much of it I can't remember and how much of it I can is so very wrong.
For me its all well and good to tell tales to friends about some person on the other side of the planet but the person I am talking about may have to read it.
That is the only problem for me. I have always wanted to do it. And if you are thinking of doing it I would say, what the hell, why not? If anyting it will just let you know more about who you are. Even if nobody ever reads it but you and a few close friends. As for publishing, from those I know who have tried it, it takes a very pleasurable thing (the writing) and makes it a high stress full time job for what will likely be no reward. And if you do get the reward you will dam well have earned it.
Do it, but do it for you and write it to your friends. That way it will be definitely be worthwhile, as for anything else, that's just a bonus.
On that note, maybe I will take my own advice.
Good luck

Do not write unless you are fully committed to it. I love to write and have learned that. One story I started got to be 240 pages long, but I am taking a break from that. I did not have a great base and ended up changing it all around. So remember, make sure you're committed: writing takes a lot of time. Also, make sure you have a good base idea before you start.
Once you've got these down, go for it!
Good luck!

Books write themselves. Really. I've written several, two almost published but not quite.
But I really can't imagine writing one about myself as a biography.
You COULD possibly get around all that weight of MINE by using yourself as a model for a main character in a novel. The characters will take over then and actually dictate the story to you. They will EVEN ARGUE with you about the direction of the sstory or internal details/events AND will get MAD and GO AWAY if you try to force them to do things they don't want to do.
HONEST TRUTH.
Try it.

I think it would be a good idea to write. However book writing can be time consumming, so make sure you have lots of time on your hand. A slight comedic saga sounds very interesting, what the heck... go for it!

Write it if you WANT to write it.... but dont even start it if you're doing it for someone else. Writing is a long, trying, lonely process and you have o really want it to finish it.
That said, if the story needs to be told, tell it!

Who cares about you being rusty-you'll be better once you've stretched your writing muscles a little bit. Just don't be afraid to revise if you don't like the way it's coming out.

Write it! If you like, you can send rough drafts to me to revise - I'm very good at that, at least.
