I know this " is what you use when someone is actually talking, but what about when you are writing in first person and the character is thinking something? Would you use one just like this ' on each end?? If not, how do you write what the character is thinking??

I remember when I was in the 1st grade reading a story about a mouse who crawled into a mitten, and then a toad joined him. Soon a turtle, a fox, and other animals. They were using the mitten as a playroom. The mitten kept on stretching as more animals came in to play. The last one to join was a bear, and the mitten exploded buy no one was hurt. That was one of my favorite stories as a child, but I cannot remember the name of the story or the author. Does anyone know?

I made this up a few minutes ago....

When all your world is crumbling down,
With no hope of coming back up,
And soul leaves body, heart leaves mind,
You sit and wonder what went wrong.
When all your knowledge amounts to nothing,
When faith is shaken by failure,
All you can truly do...
Is try harder.
Achieve what you dream of,
No matter how ridiculous,
No matter how many people say you will fail,
Just continue on the path of your dreams.
When nobody believes in you,
Not anyone at all,
All you can do...
Is believe in yourself.
Do what you do for you, not others,
It is your life to live,
Not there's,
Follow your heart through thick and thin.
When you want to know what you did wrong,
Don't sit and wonder about it,
Try again.........
So you can figure it out.
Follow your dreams,
Do what makes you happy,
It is up to you,
To continue on the path of your heart.

I'm planning on writing a novel-length fanfic, which will basically be my version of the last Harry Potter book.
The rule I made with myself was to go along with canon (meaning, the books). I can't, say, write that Hermione's really a pureblood, or that Ron never wanted to date Hermione, etc.
My question is... JK Rowling has told us fans additional information about the series in interviews/etc. Should I also follow all the interview information, or stick with simply follow what the books alone have said?

I like fiction, mostly suspense thrillers and mystery, but I love reading and am open to a lot. Some authors I like are Dan Brown, Dean Koontz, some Stephen King, and you kind of get the idea.

I'm writing stories and other things for my classes, but my language is not that well. May you help me to find an on-line interactive writing workshop, free of course, where I can put my stories or other writings and receive feedback about them to make me improve my writing skills?

That's really most appreciated. I truely thank you in advance.

Imagine yourself in barns and noble, and you came across the cover of an interesting looking book, compelling you to remove it from the shelf. You skim through it. Then, you discover there are caucasian characters, as well as other cultures in the story. You also discover the book was written by an African American author. Would you, or would you not, continue to read it?
