I'm planning on writing a novel-length fanfic, which will basically be my version of the last Harry Potter book.
The rule I made with myself was to go along with canon (meaning, the books). I can't, say, write that Hermione's really a pureblood, or that Ron never wanted to date Hermione, etc.
My question is... JK Rowling has told us fans additional information about the series in interviews/etc. Should I also follow all the interview information, or stick with simply follow what the books alone have said?

Just so it's clear, I DO NOT plan on publishing this or anything. Fanfiction is usually just online, never published. I wouldn't dream of trying to publish it.

I would go along with what the books have done so far, and not so much with what JK Rowling has said in interviews....after all, its your version of book 7, and as you write, she may give out more details, which will make you have to change your story...good luck with it!!!

First off, it will be hard for you to ever get that out. Since JK Rowling does have ownership of the characters and stories. But if its for yourself. I guess do what you want.

both, whichever is more prominent.
like for ex: if she said that Voldy's not back, lol
but the books say he is, the go with the books
or, for ex: if she said the Ron/Hermie is defiant,
but the books have debate over that, go with interviews.
Just so you know. you will have to tie up all those loose ends, and i suppose you'd want to publish it. well, good luck with that, (yeah right)

whatever you do, just don't kill Harry Potter like JK Rowling seems to be planning to do so.
