I need some example high school schedules because I am writing a fiction book that takes place during a girl's freshman year, but I am not in High School yet so I have no idea where to start. I need times, classes, and anything else you can tell me.

okay, heres the skinny..
i will help you, becuz..
i am 17 , and about to be a junior in high school..
kay. i have to get up around six to fully wake up..
here s the bell schedule..at seven thirty all the students will arrive.
then from seven forty to eight thirty will be your first period..
then from eight thirty five to nine twenty five..is your second period..then from nine thirty to ten twenty is your third period..
then from ten twenty five to eleven fifthteen is your fourth period..then whether you are on the zero hall..you go straight to lunch..when that bell rings at eleven fifthteen..becuz you have first lunch.. so first lunch is from eleven fifthteen to eleven fiftyfive..then you have to go to fifth period..then the people that are on the one hundred hall..have second lunch..which is from twelve ten to twelve forty five..then the bell rings at twelve fifty..then you go to sixth period..then when the bell rings at one forty..you go to seventh period..then when the bell rings at two thirty five..you either drive yourself home, get a ride from a friend, or ride the bus.. I hope that this helps you out.

*blinks* what WAS my schedule back then? Hm.

I remember taking PE 1, Honors Earth/Space, Honors English 1, Geometry, Civics/Geography, Creative Writing 1, French 1, and Tech Theatre 1.

Yes, I know, that's eight classes, but my school's a little different and does shorter classes to fit in more crap into our brains.

Something to keep in mind is that high school has flexibility. It's not like middleschool, where they tell you everything you have to take. High school, you are required to take the 'core' classes to graduate (math [usually 3 years], science [2 years], english [3 years], and social sciences [3 years]), and for the most part, you can choose what your other classes are according to the direction you want to go in life, or even just if you think it might be fun.

In HS, you can take the normal track, or the Honors track, or ... dunno how to put this politely... the intellegence-impaired track. Hell, I've known people who have taken the Honors English route, but suck so bad at math that they have to take remedial classes.

So, just keep in mind what your character is like and what classes would fit them. No, don't let them have classes that have their friends in every single class with them, becuase that is almost impossible. I had a best friend all through high school, and we even took similiar classes, but I never once had a class with her.

To give some hints, I'll list off some core classes you can start with:

Math track for freshmen: normal: Algebra 1. smart: Geometry. remedial: Math Lab 1.

English track: normal: English 1. smart: Honors English. remedial: English Study Hall.

Science track: normal: Biology 1. smart: Semester of H. Bio. 1/ Semester of H. Earth/Space. remedial: Zoology.

Social Science track: Civics/Geography.

For other classes, there's also stuff like Creative Writing, French, Spanish, Drama, Tech, Woodworking, Psychology, Sociology, Choir, Band, Accounting, Business, Web Design, Art, etc. Hell, you can even make up a class and all you have to do is put a '1' after it and there ya go! And if you do Sophomore year as well, you can tack on a '2'. Really, it's not that hard. Don't do something like '101' or anything, becuase that's college.

Another thing, are the classes all in one day, or is the school going to do a block schedule (half the classes one day, other half the next)? Is the school small or large? If the school is small, most likely it will have only one lunch, but if it's larger it'll have two or even three lunch periods.

In the way of a schedule, I'll give you what my school does:

7:30-9:02 Period 1
9:13-10:46 Period 2
11:58-12:25 Lunch A (Lunch A goes to Period 3 afterwards)
11:58-1:02 Period 3 (Period 3 goes to Lunch B afterwards)
1:13-2:45 Period 4

And then the schedule repeats the next day, only with Periods 5,6,7 and 8.

Y'know, I hope I'm not just confusing you more...

lets see if i can remeber my freshman schedulel....
block schedule for odd days:
7:35- 9:02: gym
9:10-10:36:biology
10:44-11:24-fundamental design (art)
then i had lunch
12:44-1:32-fundamental desing (art)
1:40-2:18- algebra

and then on even days it was(same times):

english
S.M.A.R.T
then spanish 2
lunch
spanish 2
economics

smart was a class period when you get to choose where you go, its a study hall.

also, i gave you the block schedule day times.
for falcon days (mondays) we went to all seven of our classes (no smart on mondays) and each class was about 48 minutes long with 8 minutes passing time.
i had had b lunch which split either my fourth or fifth class period in half so it was 48 minutes, lunch, 48 minutes.

the classes were numbered by the hours
1st hour-gym
2-english
3-biology
4-spanish
5-art
6-econ
7-math

so on tuesdays and thursdays we have our even days (2,smart,4,6)
and on Wednesdays and fridays we would have odd days (1,3,5,7)

also, i am pretty sure those were my classes first semester. i would give you second semester, too, but that was two years ago so i dont remember the rest. hope that helped.

mondays were something like
7:35-8:16
8:24-9:02
9:10-10:09
10:17-11:04
11:12-11:32
lunch
12:04-12:28
12:36-1:24
1:32-2:18

and that is not completely right but its awfully close. have fun and good luck!

Ask your highschool, because usually its day 1 -5 . In elmeentry and everything. They use days rather than monday tuesday and so on because if its a holiday ,you will miss that day and start the next day.IF its day you just do w/e itday it is and continue on.

it varies for each state, city, high school. you shouldn't write books for something you know nothing about. why not write a book on middle school/elementary school?
