It seems like over time, history has seen societies that are more open to special social interactions among its people (non-traditional religions, premarital sex, use of drugs, homosexuality, etc.), less open, and unevenly open. What do you think some of the most "permissive" periods and societies in human history have been? The most "restrictive"?

If you went to a ballroom dance club, what would you like to have in it? A restaurant (what kind of food?), bar, snack bar? If you took lessons, what would be the best time (days, time frame)? Any other suggestions?

answers dont exactly have to pertain to the Nabokov essay I talk about below. its just there so if anyone knows about it they know where my question comes from.
Kind of long but thanks for any help or opinions.

In Good Readers and Good Writers, Vladimir Nabokov says that he doesn't want readers to personally identify themselves in any way with a work of literature because it robs the author his creation. But at the same time he says that "Since the master artist used his imagination in creating his book, it is natural and fair that the consumer of the book should use his imagination too". I'm not sure of this difference between personal imagination/involvement and the "impersonal imagination and artistic delight" he'd rather a reader use.

Whats a good symbol that I have to draw for Ugliness and Madness?
It could be like animals, for example a lion for corruage.
Or even like a rose for red as an example.

Sometimes I will get immature answers.

Here's an example.
A couple of months ago, I posted a qestion on my Apache hertage. I got two different racist remakes back. I've had other immature answers, but that was the most severe case.

My worry is that they are telling kids on here the same thing.

Have you ever had a response like this?

There is more to the plot but I'm not going to say what it is. Anyway, i had few choices for names in mind so between these which one will be best for my character: Ophelia, Juliana, Amber, or Ellie.

Okay, I have wondered this, and never found a complete answer: how can you truly know what is right and wrong? I mean, how do we have a conscious? How do we even know that our actions are truly "the right thing to do''? I mean, the fact that we've been taught certain actions and principles are the right is most likely a main chunk of the reason, but how else?? I know it can't be due to any religious reasons....

A 300, double-spaced paged novel or 86,000 words. The author wants mostly grammatical editor who will also pick up small plot or character inconsistencies. I read somewhere that 5 cents a word for editing and 3 cents a word for proofreading, but it seems way too much to me. The highest the author is willing to go is $500 for the project. I'm confused! Thanks for your help!
