Sometimes I will get immature answers.

Here's an example.
A couple of months ago, I posted a qestion on my Apache hertage. I got two different racist remakes back. I've had other immature answers, but that was the most severe case.

My worry is that they are telling kids on here the same thing.

Have you ever had a response like this?

immediately when a question is posted, it is on the "front" area, where you have a high percentage of persons wanting to catch questions, for no other purpose than score points.
I'd call them 'jerks' but that would be giving them the benefit of the doubt.
The front page scrolls so fast, that in a few minutes, your post is on p 27 of that... but then the genealogy folks see it. Actually, many of the hard core genealogy folks (me included) never see a question unless it is in genealogy.
I doubt that many of the "kids" discussions address such things, so the replies will be different. Notice I said "different", not more courteous.
At the risk of stereotyping, most genealogists are more mature. We do have some younger persons who are interested in their heritage, so age is not always the defining factor. If you post regularly, you will get to know the regulars over here, and while it does not eliminate the idiot factor, it can balance out.
It simply is a risk factor in being on the net, where there are many types of interactions, much of those will come as shock to others. If the answer actually is in violation of yahoo guidelines for courtesy, personal attacks and so forth, that is when you would report it.

I think you have some good responses above. There are dingbats answering questions from the Home Page where all questions show up. Some think they are funny. A lot are kids playing on their computers.

I don't think you will find any of the regulars on the genealogy board doing that. One day someone asked about 4 questions in the row and gave the best answer to the same person. There was a slam at genealogy and a slam at Mormons. I feel the person or persons had an ax to grind.

That person has not been back on the genealogy board. If you want to get on a nasty board, try Religion and Spirituality.
That is a something people are subjective about. People of different faiths bait each other and atheist bait believers and vice versa. There have been some regulars on the board that have been cloned. Someone was able to use their name and avatar. They were trying to discredit the persons by asking crude and vulgar questions and giving crude and vulgar answers. The clones were reported and removed. Hope Yahoo has figured out a way to prevent that.

That "Report it" flag you see next to every answer (and question) is there for a reason. There are a lot of people out there that take opportunities (especially anonymously on-line) to do such things. Some because they just think it is funny or that somehow this make them look superior, others because they sadly believe what they are writing.

Unfortunately you just have to ignore it and recognize those people for who they really are, or use the "report it" option (sometimes you have to e-mail the administrator directly). But you aren't going to change these people. The WORST thing you can do is respond. That gives them what they are looking for.

anytime you go on the internet, you will find there are people who find pleasure in making immature and even hateful remarks to any question people ask. the mask of anonimity the internet gives you often brings out the worst in people. it's not a phenomenon solely belonging to yahoo answers. yahoo put measures in place to help combat these people, such as the rating thumbs up and thumbs down, and the flagging feature. other than that, you've just got to ignore these 'trolls' and not let them get to you.

If they do that again get more than one person to report them. My friend and I recently gained up on this really racist girl and got her kicked off. Its amazing what the power of friendship can accomplish! You should try it sometime! ;)

I have not had this with heritage, but when I answered history "questions", I had one from a man claiming to have a doctorate in history belittling me and another, a teen gal, that threatened my life.
Some of them are really sad!
