For me to read? Some books I really enjoyed were Uglies (by Scott Westerfield) and Flipped (the book with an upside down chicken on it). I also liked things by Sharon Creech. I disliked The Hobbit. Any suggestions?

My best friends are amazing artists, but sometimes, people can't tell what MY artwork even is! Someone even said since they couldn't tell what it was, that means it is bad!!! I really need some help becoming a better artist! Please help me! I am desperate to impress this guy I like! He treats me like nothing but if I prove I am a good artist, maybe he would treat me a little better! Please help! All I want is to be a good artist and for the love of my life to respect me more!
