80% of humanity, the religious folks, don't need to ask the meaning of life, the church tells them....the supernatural explanation. But the rest of us can't swallow religious dogma, because there's no evidence. Nobody can prove that there life after death, that people are tortured or rewarded after life or that there's invisible spirits running around.
I've come to two conclusions recently:
1. Life has no meaning
2. Life has a million meanings.
First, there's a certainty that death and annihilation awaits not only you, but the Earth in general. It's an astonomical certainty that our sun will supernova and leave the earth a burnt crisp, not to mention all the other extinction level events around the corner.
Second, the million things that give us meaning are the pleasurable experiences we can conjure up during the short period we are here on the earth, in the form of the relationships we have with our kids and other people, and the 'housekeeping' types of purposes. What i mean by that are the curing disease, ending hunger, improving literacy, reducing crime, preventing war, helping other kinds of things.
So the bottom line is, we only have a temporary meaning to life, to reduce pain and increase pleasure, other than that everything is lost to oblivion.
To be or not to be? "To be" is temporary and "not to be" is inevitable.....

We could attribute meaning to life and could come up with a number of definitions on what life is and if it is meaningful. In a sense all we end up with is a bunch of theories which we have no way of knowing whether there is any truth to them. Life has a possibility of being meaningful and we could argue how, from many different angles but we don't know for sure whether there is a meaning of life. So yes and no...life could very well have meaning or it couldn't...we can't say.

I'm helping the first answerer. Not tearing it down...yes life is a test. It's a test to see if we will be like Adam or like Eve. Who knows. Adam nearly obeyed. We will nearly obey because we sin. There is no complete righteousness because of all the temptations. Christians now ignore the repent and be saved. Before though they would sin and then repent. Then they would sin again and repent again. Some Christians still do that. that isn't good. And another reason that we are here for is because Eve ate the apple. That was their life and this is ours. A lot of people are eating so many apples. Probably even every day. This is life. What's the serpent? No not the tree. No not the snake. Life is the serpent. it lets us choose and sometimes give us only one choice. Is this life?

Yeah, but I think that the meaning of life really depends on the person. Life may mean different things to everyone, but it still has a meaning no matter what. It's really hard to describe, for me, why life has a meaning. To me, it's like an abstract concept. It makes my mind a mess just trying to put it in words.

It's subjective really. To the person who believes that life has no meaning, they will simply commit suicide and be down all the time.
Myself I do think that life has meaning. It is a learning experience. Everything happens for a reason even if we cannot see it at the time.

Everyone is placed in the world for different reasons. The Lord never makes mistakes! You have to find the purpose of your life to truely understand what the Lord has in store for you. There is a great book called " Purpose driven life" that can help you.

I dont know if their is some "higher" or religious meaning to life, I dont know if their is something preordained. this is how I handle it, life has meaning for me because I mean something to me and the people I love and the people I can help and all the things I can do and enjoy have meaning to me. I have no religious cushion to fall back on and I cant tell you anything with certainty, but that is why life has meaning to me.

yes, i do think that life has a meaning or else we wouldnt be here, everything is done for a reason and everything has a reason including life.... even though life may definatly get us down sometimes... everything is done for a reason.....
now heres what i have thought of so far.....for the meaning of life.....
why are we here? -------- well we are all here and all exist as humans or animals in our case humans.... we are put here to show that we can survive ... we show our-selves that we can do it face the world and its pleasures and its spikes... we are here to grow and gain knowledge and to seek what we could no where else... we suffer yes, but its what we are supposed to go through we are supposed to face hardships in life it builds character and makes us stronger and wiser as people... we are here for experience and once we feel we are ready to leave or "time" we die.... sometime though we die during the hardships... its wasn’t chosen for us.... we don’t die on our own unless its of natural cause when your heart is truly done living its life.... if were killed its the other persons destiny they made the wrong choice it wasn't necessarily you who did it... life is all about opening the right doors and choosing the right paths... we don’t know what through the trees or behind the doors.... we have faith not in "god" or a "spirit" but in our-selves that’s were our truth faith and hope lies not in other but in ourselves....
What are we here for? -------- We are here to live our lives to the fullest and make our dreams a reality........

Life has meaning if you want it to have meaning... The meaning of life for one person might be different from another. One person might feel that they are here for one reason while another might think they are here for another, while another might just think that we are a happenstance of our location in the universe.
