I am looking for more books like the ones in the list below, books that if you read them will change your perspective and greatly increase your overall knowledge and understanding.

These are the ones I've been through so far, and consider very important reading for life and political perspective in general:

-The Bible
-Practical Ethics by Peter Singer
-Mein Kampf
-everything by Freud

...So, there must be others out there... Any ideas?

Ka 'Ba

A closed window looks down
on a dirty courtyard, and black people
call across or scream or walk across
defying physics in the stream of their will

Our world is full of sound
Our world is more lovely than anyone's
though we suffer, and kill each other
and sometimes fail to walk the air

We are beautiful people
with African imaginations
full of masks and dances and swelling chants

with African eyes, and noses, and arms,
though we sprawl in grey chains in a place
full of winters, when what we want is sun.

We have been captured,
brothers. And we labor
to make our getaway, into
the ancient image, into a new

correspondence with ourselves
and our black family. We read magic
now we need the spells, to rise up
return, destroy, and create. What will be

the sacred words?

Why didn't country's let Napolean take over there land? I mean if I was in the situation, I probably would let him. Napolean let the people practice what ever religion they wanted, improved the economy gave better jobs, and over improved the country. Look what he did to France. France was crumbling, bankrupt, 98% of the population were peasents who were living on the streets, and he brought France up to one of the greatest country's in Europe taking over country's one by one. I mean if I got a good job, got a good life had enough food, still practicing the religion I wanted to, all for just having a new ruler (who's good), and living at another country, fine by me. I may be wrong with some of the facts such as the religion, but thats what my teacher said, and if I'm wrong, or there is something I'm missing please correct me.

Have read all of IM's novels and philosophy etc. Have not been able since her death to find anyone to succeed her as a major unique talent, capable of such range and cleverness and perception and humour and occasional weirdness. I heard quite a while ago that Candia McWilliam (?) was the new Iris Murdoch but I read her novel A Case of Knives and was disappointed. Any suggestions? Or was IM a one-off?

If you go on Books/Authors, you can see a buttload of questions that you can tell, they want you to do their homework for them. I say they should do it themselves what do you think?

I love Catcher in the Rye. I've become quite obsessed with it.
I would like to read more novels that are related to the subject (disenchantment, or coming of age.)
I have read all of Salinger's work. I have already read A Separate Peace. I do not like Harry Potter (though I have read all the books.)
I am not a young adult.
I also enjoy satire and I'm looking to move away from the classics, which I have read extensively.
Any suggestions?
