Because the stories aren't particularly good. It's all hyped up to make a lot of money and everybody has fallen for it. There are much better books rotting away in obscurity because of the publishing system. You've only got to read the questions and answers on this site to see the brain washing that has gone on.

I use to have a very split mind whether I like them or not.
I would enjoy reading them, they would completely capture me, they are written amazing and she has created such a full world using so many ideas- but as soon as I put the book down I felt like I didn't read anything, like I wasted my time, I woudn't even rememeber what was in those 300-400 pages.. only main plot points....
it feels shallow in away.
though now after reading some of them again, and writing more myself, and studying literature I appriciate much more the layers that ARE in the book.
but the book still has a sort of "light read" effect to it....
plus some people just arn't into magicians and so on...

i never enjuyed it I have no interest in that stuff. My sons don't care for the movies or the books, they're 5 and 9, and they both have more common sense than alot of people I've met. there are many books written for entertainment purposes. and harry potter is pure fairy tale . oh and i've tried to like hp, but i've walked out of the movie twice. it just has no interesting aspect.

At first, because I'm just plain cantankerous and tend to shy away from bestseller lists. I did finally break down and read the Sorceror's Stone a couple of years ago. It was okay, but not enthralling. Maybe if I'd read them when they first came out (I was about ten), before they became so famous, I'd have enjoyed them.

well, am just not into childish literature and it does not appeal to my reading wish list; have very little time to read and would rather read more adult fare.
